New Technologies During WWII

There were many new inventions that were being used in the war. Besides that fact there was also a lot of new inventions that where being used at different places throughout the rest of the world also. WWII was probably a greater time of war for invention than during WWI. First we are going to start off with the inventions that were both no and also used in the war and help exponentially to help win it. The first few of these inventions are penicillin, jerry cans, radar, synthetic rubber, V-2 Rocket, Jet engines, Nuclear Power, and The Original Typewriter. During this time there was a very strong antibacterial made. This discovery of the mold penicillin was really made in the year 1869 by the researcher Ernest Duchesne. Later during the war it was made into a great awareness of what it could do and was then made in high demand. It was a good thing this came out because there were a lot of soldiers fighting in the war and dying because of a simple infection. Radar was one of the major advancements in the war. Radar was able to help millions of Americans. Radar works like this: the dish sends out wave signals that if it hits something then it will bounce back to the radar dish and warn the people of what is coming. This process is also used in a mammal that lives in the water. It is the same principle but just different surroundings and environments. The jet engine was also a great invention that helped with air to air battles and air to ground battles. What happened actually is that a British scientist developed the engine first not the Germans. There was the problem that Sir Frank Whittle was receiving very low funding for

the project because his government didnt seem to show very much interests in his design. Even though the British werent very interested the Germans where. They poured a massive amount of funding into it and it was one of the most feared weapons the axis had. The design that Whittle made is still used in commercial air planes even today. One of the more disappointing weapons that was created is the V-1 rocket. This rocket could be shot down very easily by the Allies. That is why they came out with the V-2 rocket to replace the V-1. The V-2 is said to be one of the deadliest ballistic missiles of all time. Interesting fact about it is the technology used to develop this weapon was also used in launching the first satellites (named R7 and Mercury Redstone). When you think of nuclear power most people think of todays source for a lot of energy. Back during WWII scientists around the world new about what the atom could do in theory. The thing is though that America found out how to achieve this through the Manhattan project where we created the first weapon based on the atom. We named the two atomic bombs that we made the Fat Man and the Little Boy which were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bomb that dropped on Hiroshima was the little boy with a 15 kiloton explosion and the bombe that dropped on Nagasaki was the Fat Man that had about the same explosive power as the little boy. The Fat Man had a ring around it of 64 detonators that shot segments of Plutonium together which would cause a super critical nuclear explosion. These are just some of the inventions that were used in the war. The truth to all of this destruction and death is the fact that if we didnt do this then the war could have probably have been longer and have had a totally different turn out than what it did.
