Flowrox Scaling Watch is newly announced for precise measurement of scale in pipe-
lines and other fuid control environments.
This wafer piece of pipeline is engineered to insert between two fanges for precise
ft. It allows scale detection often the result of hardened mineral deposits that can reduce
fuids fow through a pipeline. It serves oil and gas or other industries where production
rates can be adversely affected by the hardening of iron, salts, or other minerals in pipes
and valves.
This device uses Electrical Capacitance Tomography technology. It allows operators to see
inside piping systems without stopping a process or opening a line. It also enables 3D-

Flowrox Scaling Watch utilizes a patented algorithm to create 3D image of process fuid
in piping. It generates trend data as well as shows free volume inside pipe and scale

composition all of which allow engineers to understand areas where pipes are prone
to scaling. This new predictive device helps operators address scale issues before they

Baker Hughes Opens Artificial Lift Research & Technology Center in Oklahoma
Baker Hughes Incorporated opened its Artificial Lift Research and Technology Center on February 20 in Cla-
remore Oklahoma an 80,000+ square foot employee-designed center for research, engineering, design, and
testing. The $60-million facility was built to satisfy growing research, development, and more extensive testing
requirements for the artificial lift industry.
The new facility features com-
prehensive equipment needed
for self-sustaining R&D product
development and operations. It
will bring together the industrys
leading technologists, engineers,
and scientists who design, manu-
facture, and test all major artificial
lift system components that enable
operators to get more value out of
their wells.
Baker Hughes has operated in
Oklahoma since the earliest days

Curiosity Rover Project
As chief engineer and development manager for the Mars Science
Laboratory focused on the entry, descent and landing phase,
Adam Steltzners job was to ensure that the NASA Mars Curiosity rover
landed safely. His group spent nearly 10 years designing, building,
testing, and tweaking the process that would slow the intricately designed,
2,000-pound rover from a speed of nearly 15,000 miles per hour and
