Margaret Florence Ludwig

Canadian North Collection

Special Viewing for the Youth Films International Gala

Selected from the Margaret Florence Ludwig
Canadian North Collection
October 20, 2009
For this event, Margaret Florence Ludwig, the Artist, has hand selected
distinguished pieces from her Canadian North Collection that
represent both a diversity of landscape, emotion and environmental
transition.

The Canadian North Collection includes select pieces from Nunavut,

Baffin Island, and the Canadian Arctic. Each piece has a distinct
feeling and meaning to both the Artist and our natural environment.

Most or all of the ice flows viewed on these canvases are either no
longer in existence or have drastically changed physical forms due to
the transformation of the Canadian North.

A distinct honor has been given to Margaret Florence Ludwig as her

artwork has recently been highlighted and gifted in a presentation
given by Mr. Al Gore (featured in “An Inconvenient Truth: Global
Warming Effects”). He too knows the importance and cherishes the
artistic works of the Canadian North.

Proceeds of any sale or lending will be generously donated to

assist Youth Films International.

Representatives of Margaret Florence Ludwig will be available for

further information.

Margaret Florence Ludwig will be making a special appearance to

provide further explanation on the Collection and her experiences
in recreating the Canadian North, as requested.

Artist Briefing

Starting her artistic career as a young woman in

Peterborough, ON, Margaret Florence Ludwig, had early
inspirations from the local landscape of the Kawartha
Highlands. Her first inspirations were specifically from
Burleigh Falls, where the most southern point of the
Canadian Shield emerges, near a long-standing family
cottage.

Margaret Florence Ludwig has taken her passion for sharing

northern Canadian landscape to the Artic, North-West
Territories, Baffin Island, and Northern British Columbia as
desired destinations.

Over her 55 year career she has documented through her

own eyes the environmental changes, natural transition and
natures adaptation to our Canadian landscape.

The Canadian North Collection selected for this event

represents the struggle and transition of our natural
environment and resilience of change.

Artist Biography
Margaret Florence Ludwig was born in 1928 in Peterborough, Ontario. She is a
graduate of the Ontario College of Art (1951). Studies include the Artist's
Workshop, Central Technical School, The Toronto School of Art and York
University. She taught sculpture at the Artist's Workshop (1977-1979). Good
standing member of the Haliconian Club, the Arts and Letters and the Portrait
Society of Canada. A change in her work and attitude developed when she began
to appreciate the quiet and solitude of landscape painting. Snow, wind, ice and
searing sun are the elements that transform nature, as she sees it, into vibrant and
exciting paintings. Baffin Island, Newfoundland, the Queen Charlotte Islands,
Southern Ontario, Greenland and Mexico are the sources of many of her works.
Burleigh falls being her favorite source of inspiration in Ontario. Her canvasses
depict the majesty and awe of the North Arctic and Antarctic, in her recent trips to
these exciting places.
