Newspaper Access Policy & Appointment Application

The Long Beach Historical Newspaper Collection includes bound volumes and microfilmed reels assembled from the PressTelegram in 2011 and 2013, along with other newspaper such as the Argus, Shopping News, and Marina News. This
project and collection was made possible by a grant from the Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association. A complete
list is available to the public at www.hslb.org. Researchers must make advanced appointments to view the newspapers and
be assisted by HSLB staff. HSLB has limited staff to perform this function. Not all editions will be made available to the
public due to their condition.

How Do I Use the Collection?

Researchers must fill out an Appointment Application to view the collecting during HSLB gallery hours. Appointments
must be confirmed by HSLB. The application must include the exact dates (day if possible month/year) and name of
publications to which they wish to access.
What are the Limitations?
Appointments will be made for single media research only (bound volume or microfilm station in one day, not both).
No more than 3 volumes or microfilm reels may be pulled each day.
Research maybe limited to two hours depending on demand. Researchers must wear gloves and handle items
carefully.
Remote research service is not available. Researchers must be present.
Reproduction of any part of bound volumes is prohibited per agreement with the Press-Telegram.
Images captured from microfilm cannot be used for commercial purposes.
How Much Does it Cost?
Free to HSLB members and Press-Telegram staff.
If you are not yet a member, $25 per day.
Can I Make Copies?
Microfilm and Argus Reproduction: $10 jump drive
Bound Volume Reproduction: Not permitted
Marina News Reproduction: Custom prices will be quoted.
