Thirst for the

Thought for the Week

LOOKING THROUGH CLEAN WINDOWS A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside. That laundry is not very clean, she said. She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments. About one month later, the woman was surprised to see nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this? The husband said, I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows. And so it is with life. What we see when watching others, depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, now into our third century serving God! If you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here is some helpful information as you join us in worship today: All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gender, physical disability or religious affiliation. Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Communion as well, if parents approve. A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.) Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (main foyer) and adjacent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. Please complete the tear-off attendance slip attached to the bulletin and drop it in the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit with us today. Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service. We ask that there be no food or beverages in the sanctuary, please. If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with us often! New Hope Church exists to: Glorify God in worship and rejoice in our life together; Share the Good News of the Gospel in word and deed; Reach as many as we can with the saving love of Jesus; Help each person grow toward Christian maturity, and find their place of service in the church and in the world.

Ministries/Activities Within Our Church

We are asking that you begin to bring wrapped candy and Easter Eggs for the New Hope Community Egg Hunt. The Egg Hunt will be the Saturday before Easter, starting at Noon. We will have a box in the Narthex to put the candy and eggs in. Thanks in advance!

Next CPWM Meeting March 29, 10:00 a.m. If you are a female member or regular attendee of New Hope, then by default you are already a member of our Cumberland Presbyterian Womens Ministry (CPWM)! Come to the meetings when you can to grow in your faith walk and become closer to your sisters in Christ. 5th Sunday Praise n Prayer will be Sunday evening, March 30 at 5:00 p.m. Ben is planning an outdoor gathering in the back parking lot (weather permitting) for fellowship and singing. This will be a salad and sandwich meal, with everyone bringing fixins to share. We invite you to come! Pre-Easter Clean-Up Day will be Saturday morning, April 12 at 8:00. Bill Brown, our facilities manager, has organized this. This will be a deep-cleaning inside and outside the church, mulching, yard work, etc. We will work until about noon, and a pizza lunch will be served for whoever survives until then. The more hands we have, the faster we will get done! New Hope Mens Ministry will have its start-up meeting Saturday, May 3 at 8:30 in the church kitchen (pushed back a month due to the clean-up day). This will be an organizational meeting. A lite breakfast will be served by the church staff. As we have been relating over the past few weeks, the Men's Ministry will be a time for men to come together for fellowship, support and building relationships. We will discuss ways to help with needs inside and outside our church, whether through handyman type projects or whatever needs may arise. We will become the focal planning team for events that the men sponsor such as the Mothers Day Brunch and Valentines Banquet. Working with facilities manager Bill Brown, buildings and grounds maintenance (mowing) will also be a focus. Most importantly, through this ministry, we will build on having a better relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. - Proverbs 27:17. Good Friday Service of Tenebrae (darkness) will be April 18th at 7:30. Church Camps - We are concerned that every child in our church, those ready for the 4th grade and older, will have the privilege of going to camp this June. We serve a lot more children than we have ever served before. We have traditionally paid one half of the camp fee for every child who attends our church. That will be more costly within itself this year because of the increased numbers. We also know that some of our children will not even be able to pay one half their fee. We are working on setting a $20 minimum for each child attending camp, just to make sure that each child and their family has some investment in the program. So it may be that some of you who dont have children camp age will adopt a child and help them. Brad and Robbie are the ones to talk to about that. Wednesday Prayer Group. March 26, the second in this three part series of prayer meetings. It is ok to come if you havent been coming. You will feel

comfortable, and you will be blessed. The Pastor will feel blest if you come and pray for him, 6:30 on Wednesday. Rotation Sunday School - All the children are split into three groups and rotate through three 20 minute classes. Ben has one group teaching them music education and Bible verses that go along with the songs they will be learning. This group meets in the sanctuary. Robbie teaches another group using crafts, games, cooking and other great adventures the kids will get excited about. They meet in the kitchen, fellowship hall or outside when it gets warmer. The last group is Brad's group where the children learn a Bible study that teaches them knowledge of God's word on their level. They meet up in the youth room. The three groups begin at 8:50 am and rotate till they finish at 9:50 am. Please be in prayer for the success of this exciting new ministry we have added to New Hope. Stephen Ministry - Got a burden? You dont have to carry that burden alone. You can have a STEPHEN MINISTER who will spend time with you, listen to you, and walk beside you. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving care through the Stephen Ministry program at New Hope, please contact the pastor through the Church office at (615) 449-7020 and request that a Stephen minister contact you.

The Gospel Lesson

Jesus took interest in a woman with a very shady background who was from a group of people who were looked down on by the good and upright people of God because they had unacceptable history and the wrong doctrine. He risked his reputation by talking with her while they were alone together. One would think that nothing good is likely to come out of that meeting. Yet she brought more people to Jesus than any other one in the gospel. John 4:4-42 New International Version (NIV) Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman 4 4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacobs well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. 7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, Will you give me a drink? 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink? (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a]) 10 Jesus answered her, If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water. 11 Sir, the woman said, you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock? 13 Jesus answered, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water so that I wont get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water. 16 He told her, Go, call your husband and come back. 17 I have no husband, she replied. Jesus said to her, You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true. 19 Sir, the woman said, I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem. 21 Woman, Jesus replied, believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. 25 The woman said, I know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us. 26 Then Jesus declared, I, the one speaking to youI am he. The Disciples Rejoin Jesus 27 Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, What do you want? or Why are you talking with her? 28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people,29 Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah? 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him. 31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, Rabbi, eat something. 32 But he said to them, I have food to eat that you know nothing about. 33 Then his disciples said to each other, Could someone have brought him food? 34 My food, said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.35 Dont you have a saying, Its still four months until harvest? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying One sows and another reaps is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor. Many Samaritans Believe 39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the womans testimony, He told me everything I ever did. 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers. 42 They said to the woman, We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.
