Collating Copies
You can automatically collate copies into sets arranged in page order.
1-2
Optional Features
2-Sided Copying
The 2-Sided Copying mode enables you to make two-sided copies from one-sided or two-sided originals, or make one-sided copies from two-sided originals. - The 1 to 2-Sided and Book to 2-Sided modes are available only if the machine is equipped with the optional Duplex Unit-A1. - The 2 to 2-Sided mode is available only if the machine is equipped with the optional Duplex Unit-A1. In addition to the Duplex Unit-A1, attaching the optional Feeder (DADF-P2) enables you to make faster and easier copying. - The 2 to 1-Sided mode is available only if the machine is equipped with the optional Feeder (DADF-P2).

Placing Originals
1
Basic Operations Place your originals on the platen glass or into the feeder, depending on the size and type of the original, and the copy modes you want to use. Platen Glass
Place your originals on the platen glass when copying bound originals (such as books and magazines), heavy or lightweight originals, and transparencies.
Orientation
You can place an original either vertically or horizontally. Always align the top edge of your original with the back edge of the platen glass (by the arrow in the top left corner), or with the back edge of the feeder.

Basic Operations
Vertical Placement
Horizontal Placement
NOTE If the top edge of the original is not aligned with the back edge of the platen glass (by the arrow in the top left corner), your original may not be scanned correctly, depending on the copy mode you have set. A4 and A5 originals can be placed either vertically or horizontally. However, the scanning speed for horizontally placed originals is somewhat slower than for vertically placed originals. Place originals horizontally when printing with a preset copy ratio, such as when enlarging an A4 or A5 original onto A3 paper. (See Changing the Copy Ratio, on p. 1-34.) Horizontally placed A4 and A5 originals are referred to as A4R and A5R. A3 originals must be placed horizontally. To achieve the same output orientation using the optional feeder as when the original is placed on the platen glass, place the original upside down and face up. However, if an appropriate size of paper is not loaded for the Staple mode, the output is rotated automatically.
Placing Originals
1-5
Platen Glass
You should use the platen glass when copying bound originals (such as books and magazines), heavy or lightweight originals, and transparencies. When copying ID cards using the ID Card Copy function, you must use the platen glass.
1
Basic Operations
Place books and other bound originals on the platen glass in the same way as described above.
1-6
Placing Originals
NOTE When you are enlarging an A4 or A5 original onto A3 paper, place the original horizontally on the platen glass, and align it with the A4R or A5R marks.
1
Basic Operations
NOTE When scanning is complete, lift the feeder/platen cover, and remove the original from the platen glass.
Placing Originals
1-7
1
Basic Operations
You can place the following originals into the feeders original supply tray: Weight: - 52 g/m2 to 105 g/m2 (37 g/m2 to 52 g/m2 and 106 g/m2 to 128 g/m2 when scanning a single page document) Size: - A4, A4R, A3, A5, and A5R Tray capacity: - A4, A4R, A5, and A5R: 50 sheets (80 g/m2) - A3: 25 sheets (80 g/m2)
IMPORTANT Do not place the following types of originals into the feeder: - Originals with tears or large binding holes - Severely curled originals or originals with sharp folds - Clipped or stapled originals - Carbon backed paper or other originals which may not feed smoothly - Transparencies and other highly transparent originals If the same original is fed through the feeder repeatedly, the original may fold or become creased, and make feeding impossible. Limit repeated feeding to a maximum of 30 times. (This number may vary, depending on the type and quality of the original.) If the feeder rollers are dirty from scanning originals written in pencil, clean the feeder. (See Chapter 6, Routine Maintenance, in the Reference Guide.) Always smooth out any folds in your originals before placing them into the feeder. Set the originals one by one if they are very thin (37 g/m2 to 52 g/m2) or very thick (106 g/m2 to 128 g/m2).
1-8
Placing Originals
1
Basic Operations
Neatly place your originals with the side to be copied face up into the original supply tray.
Place your originals as far into the feeder as they will go.
IMPORTANT Do not add or remove originals while they are being scanned. When scanning is complete, remove the originals from the original output area to avoid paper jams.
NOTE When you are enlarging an A4 or A5 original onto A3 paper, place the original horizontally. The scanned originals are output to the original output area in the order that they are fed into the feeder. You can place different size originals together into the feeder if you set the Different Size Originals mode. (See Different Size Originals, on p. 2-17.)

Basic Operations
When you use the stack bypass to make copies, straighten out curled paper prior to use. Curled paper may cause a paper jam.
1
Basic Operations
Feeding Direction If there is difficulty in straightening out curled paper, curl the front edges of the paper upward.
Feeding Direction To print on the back side of preprinted paper, load the preprinted paper face up into the stack bypass. IMPORTANT When loading paper into the stack bypass, align the paper stack neatly between the slide guides. If the paper is not loaded correctly, a paper jam may occur. If you are printing on heavyweight paper or envelopes using the stack bypass, remove the paper or envelopes, curl their feeding edges upward approximately 3 mm, and then reload the paper or envelopes. Curling the feeding edges enables the rollers to grip the paper or envelopes as they are fed into the stack bypass.
NOTE If there are instructions on the paper package about which side of the paper to load, follow those instructions. If problems, such as poor print quality or paper jams, occur, try turning the paper stack over and reload it.

Photo Mode
Text Mode
This mode is best suited for making copies of text originals. Blueprints or pencil drawn originals can also be copied clearly.
Text/Photo Mode
This mode is best suited for making copies of originals containing both text and images/photos, such as magazines or catalogues.
Photo Mode
This mode is best suited for making copies of photos printed on photographic paper, or making copies of images printed with halftone dots (i.e., printed photos). IMPORTANT Combinations of these three modes (Text, Text/Photo, and Photo) cannot be selected at the same time. If you select one of these modes, the previously set mode is canceled. If you make copies of an original containing halftones, such as a printed photograph, using the Photo mode, the moir effect (a shimmering, wavy pattern) may occur. In this case, you can lessen this moir effect by using the Sharpness mode. (See Sharpness, on p. 3-19.) NOTE The default setting is Text. If Photo or Text/Photo is selected, you will have to adjust the copy density manually, if necessary. The Automatic Copy Density mode is not available. 2
Advanced Operations
IMPORTANT You may not be able to make two-sided copies on some types of paper. The 2-Sided mode availability with the machine differs depending on the combination of the optional unit(s). 1 to 2-Sided Duplex UnitA1 Feeder (DADF-P2) Required 2 to 2-Sided Required 2 to 1-Sided Book to 2-Sided Required
Required
NOTE If you are copying in the 2-Sided mode, align the top edge of the original with the back edge of the platen glass (by the arrow in the top left corner), or with the back edge of the feeder. Paper used to make two-sided copies must conform to the following specifications: - Paper size: A4, A4R, A3, or A5R - Paper type: Plain, Recycled, Color, Bond, or Heavy Paper 1 (Heavy Paper 2, Heavy Paper 3, Transparencies, Labels, or Envelopes cannot be used for two-sided copying.) - Paper weight: 64 g/m2 to 90 g/m2 The 2 to 2-Sided mode is available without the optional Feeder (DADF-P2) if you place and turn the originals on the platen glass. Using the optional Feeder (DADF-P2), however, enables you to make a faster and easier copying using the 2 to 2-Sided mode.

Make sure that you place originals with a horizontal (landscape) orientation, such as A4R, horizontally. If these originals are placed vertically, the back side of the original is copied upside down. NOTE If the number of the originals is odd, the back side of the last copy is left blank. (The machines counter does not count the blank page as one copy.) If the 1 to 2-Sided mode is used with the Different Size Originals mode, the copies of differently sized originals will be printed as one-sided copies on paper of their respective sizes. If you want to make two-sided copies with differently sized originals, you must select the paper size beforehand. (See Manual Paper Selection, on p. 1-28.) If the 1 to 2-Sided mode is used when the 2 on 1 mode in the Image Combination mode is set to On for copying four pages originals, two pages of the original are printed on one side of the paper, and the other two pages are printed on the other side.

Auto Orientation
If <Auto Orientation> is set to On, the machine uses information such as the size of the original and the copy ratio to determine the most suitable orientation for the specified paper size, and then automatically rotates the image, if necessary.
NOTE The default setting is On. If you select the paper size manually, the Automatic Orientation print cannot be made even if you set <Auto Orientation> to On from the Copy Settings menu. If the Different Size Originals mode is set in combination with the Auto Paper Selection mode, Auto Orientation is not performed. If the size of the original is not detected, the image is not rotated, even if <Auto Orientation> is set to On. If A4 or A5 originals are enlarged onto A3 paper, Auto Orientation is not performed even if you select On. Only the images on standard size originals, up to A4 paper, can be rotated when the copy ratio is set to 100%. If the Auto Paper Selection mode is set and the most suitable paper size is not available, the paper source that is loaded with paper of the same size, even if the orientation is different, is displayed as the optimal paper to use.
