The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers


(NACDL) is an organization for the nation's criminal
defense lawyers to ensure justice and due process for
persons accused of crime or other misconduct . A
professional bar association founded in 1958, NACDL's
state, local, and international affiliate organizations,
private criminal defense lawyers, public defenders, active
U .S . military defense counsel, law professors and judges
are committed to preserving fairness within America's
criminal justice system . This grant provides funding for
support of Civilian Defense Counsel for persons detained at
the U .S . Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and who face
trial by military commission .

Reporting Information : The Foundation has not received or


reviewed report (s) from this
organization . Financial reporting is
due when the grant funds are fully
spent or a year after inception .

The Foundation made a grant to the National Association of


Criminal Defense Lawyers following a pregnant inquiry and

$250,000 . A payment of $150,000 will be given in fiscal

belief of the Foundation, none of the funds has been
diverted from the purpose of the grant .

Purpose of Grant : Reentry Initiative

New Jersey Institute for Social Justice is a Newark-based


urban research and advocacy organization dedicated to the
advancement of New Jersey's urban areas and residents . The
New Jersey Institute advances its non-partisan agenda
through policy-related research and analysis, development
and implementation of model programs, advocacy efforts
(including litigation when appropriate) and sustained
public education. This grant provides funding for the
support of an agenda developed by the New Jersey Reentry
Roundtable to improve the state's approach to prisoner
reentry, implementing a multi-faceted policy advocacy
strategy and developing a community-based response to
prisoner reentry in the Newark area . Its support will be
used for salaries of professional staff and in-house and
commissioned research .

Reporting Information : The Foundation has not received or


reviewed report (s) from this
organization . Financial reporting is
due on February, 2005 and 2006 . A
final report is due on May 15, 2007 .

The Foundation made a grant to the New Jersey Institute for


Social Justice following a pregrant inquiry and pursuant to
a written agreement . The amount of the grant funds
expended by the grantee within the fiscal year was a
partial amount of the grant . This grant is a three year
grant of $450,000, in which three annual installments of
$150, 000 are to be paid . The second payment will be made
in fiscal year 2005, once New Jersey Institute submits
financial reporting for the first payment . To the best
knowledge, information, and belief of the Foundation, none
of the funds has been diverted from the purpose of the
grant .

Purpose of Grant : Organization support

Altus Global Alliance is a collaboration of six


organizations working across five continents to improve
public safety and justice through empirical research and
practical reform . Through their alliance, the Altus
members will assist non-governmental organizations and
governments throughout the world to work effectively on the
improvement of the administration of justice . At the same
time, through its secretariat in The Hague, Altus will work
with the International Criminal Court to strengthen the
domestic justice systems of countries from which it
receives referrals . This grant provides funding for
salaries and benefits for Altus' staff and consultants .

The Foundation made a grant to the Altus Global Alliance


following a pregrant inquiry and pursuant to a written
agreement . The amount of the grant funds expended by the
grantee within the fiscal year was half of the amount of
the grant . The remaining grant will be disbursed at the
end of fiscal year 2005 . The total amount of the grant is
$300,000 . To the best knowledge, information, and belief
of-the Foundation, none of the funds has been diverted from
the purpose of the grant .
