An independent jury composed of Michael Becker (Director Pfizer Global Engineering, Pfizer Inc.), Malte Homann (Global Energy Excellence Manager, Bayer Material Science AG) and Ulrika Wising (Business Development Manager, DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability), has chosen the best ener.CON EUROPE project out of 15 submissions. The winner of the ener.CON EUROPE Award 2014 is ArcelorMittal and its project Energize, ArcelorMittal FCE overall energy efficiency program. Having started in 2012 in the ArcelorMittal Flat Carbon Europe segment, the projects aim is to substantially reduce the energy consumption of Flat Carbon Europe mills by 2016. This is achieved through consumption optimization for both purchased and generated energies by identifying losses and levers for improvements in all production and transversal processes.
Veronica Chiper, the pilot of ArcelorMittal FCE's Energize project, received the prize and thanked the entire ArcelorMittal team for their hard work.
The second place went to Kuwait Petroleum International Ltd. for its Sustainable Filling Stations project in Italy and Sweden. The aim of the Q8 Z.E.R.O. Project in Italy and the OKQ8 Haggvik in Sweden was to optimize the emissions generated by advanced engineering practices, the utilization of renewable energy and forest plantation, whereby Swedens Sustainable Filling Station is one of a kind with respect to its emphasis on the sustainable development triple bottom line definition. PRAYON S.A., worldwide key-player in phosphate-based products and production received the third place for their project: Steam Network Optimization through a People-Minded Project, along with ERAMET Group, world leader for alloying metals, scoring with their energy savings program that had started in 2006 and ended in 2012.

In winning the ener.con AWARD 2014, the selected project has not only received a certificate and respective trophy, but also enabled the donation of a 2000,00 cheque on the companys behalf to a corresponding charity project, as organized by we.CONECT. The prize money of 2000 will be donated to TSURO, an initiative supported by Weltfriedensdienst to help the local communities of Chimanimani, Zimbabwe, develop sustainable agricultural behaviors. The farmer organization and its 5000 members aim at assisting the country, which suffers from food scarcity as well as overexploitation of natural resources, such as water and soil. The ener.CON EUROPE 2014 event offered more than 20 Case Studies, World Cafs and interactive sessions. Discussions and presentations on topics like technical feasibility, technical developments & solutions, energy efficiency planning, design, total asset management in total plant asset management for energy conscious organizations has surpassed the expectations of more than 120 attendees. After the conference is before the conference With more than 30 speakers and 120 attendees from all over the world, the ener.CON EUROPE 2014 was again the biggest networking platform for energy efficiency & total plant asset management professionals in Europe. The we.CONECT team is already preparing the 4 ener.CON Europe 2015, which will take place in Berlin from March 19 20, 2015. Next year, the ener.CON Award will once again be attributed to outstanding projects.
