Learning Outcomes Analyse and troubleshoot problems in the following environments; TCP/IP, routers, switches and VLANs. Adapt and apply efficient troubleshooting methods for documenting internetwork problems. Compare and contrast generic and vendor specific analysis tools on network routers and switches. Demonstrate development of critical analysis and judgement skills with the framework of internetwork design.

Your team has been selected as the consultant for a manufacturing company, headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. The company recently was having problem with their internal network and the management require your team to investigate and troubleshoot the problems accordingly. Upon investigation, you had found out that the company did not have their network design and configuration properly documented. With lack of resources, you need to proceed with the investigation and one of the important tasks is to get the overview of the companys network design. Section A: Reverse Engineering & Troubleshooting 1. From the physical setup, you know that all PCs are connected to department switches before going to the routers. Based on the startup configuration and routing table obtained from all routers (refer to Appendix A), analyze all the output and draw out the network design topology for the existing network by using Cisco Packet Tracer software. Configure the network according to the startup configuration document. 2. You have found out that some of the department sub-networks could not ping to each other. Research and document the problems faced by the existing network. Troubleshoot the existing network with proper recommendation of troubleshooting methods, tools and process. Suggest the solution for the derived problems of the network. 3. Correct the problems and ensure all connections are fully working by using Cisco Packet Tracer software.

Section B: Recommendation to upgrade the network 1. Based on your findings in Section A, your team has recommended the organization to upgrade their network settings & configuration without changing their current design. Your suggestion should include these areas: a. Public and Private IP with VLSM subnetting and DHCP implementation. b. NAT / PAT c. Routing Protocols d. VLAN

* Provide your own assumptions on the departments, number of PCs, IP address used, etc. whichever required supporting your recommendation. The assumptions must be clearly stated in the documentation. Include critical discussion and provide justifications for each of your implementation proposal. 2. Design the proposed network diagram (logical design) of the companys network and configure the upgraded version of the network by using Cisco Packet Tracer software. Assignment Requirements 1. You are required to work in a group of not more than 4 members. 2. Your report must be typed using Microsoft Word with Times New Roman font size 12. Expected length is from 9000 to 10000 words. You need to include a word count at the end of the report. Report should be in 1.5 spacing. 3. You are required to prepare a PowerPoint presentation and include the softcopy in the CD, together with the Packet Tracer file and softcopy of the report. 4. As part of project management, you are required to develop a Gantt chart (project plan) that indicates clearly the activities required in order for the project to be a success. 5. The report has to be well presented and should be typed. Submission of reports that are unprofessional in its outlook (dirty, disorganised, inconsistent look, varying coloured paper and size) will not fare well when marks are allocated. 6. Ensure that the report is printed on standard A4 (210 X 297 mm) sized paper. Paper weight of 80 grams and above is highly recommended. 7. The report should have a one (1) margin all around the page as illustrated below:

8. The assignment should attach front cover, Turnitin report (the first page only) and marking grid. A transparent plastic sheet can be placed in front of the report to protect the front cover. 9. Plagiarism is a serious offence and will automatically be awarded zero (0) mark. 10. All information, figures and diagrams obtained from external sources must be referenced using the Harvard referencing system accordingly. *IMPORTANT* You have to hand in your assignment hardcopy and softcopy (in the CD) on time with the Coursework Submission and Feedback Form.
