My Dear Henry I have anxiously looked and waited the coming of a letter from you, a long time, and have thought that perhaps you did not get my last, and I remember of telling you to direct to Ogdensburgh, and by the way yours must been the letter my uncle opened and through some carelessnes lost if I remember now of My Cousin telling about a letter, from a soldier he said but could not reccolect the name and that must have been your letter. If-so I wonder what you will think, because I do not answer. Well, this rainy sabbath evening, I have concluded to write you informing you of my continued good health &c and also, of my appointment to a clerkship in the Custom House at New York City. Salary twelve hundred a year to commence on I think my chances very good for promotion. As the Hon. Preston King of Ogd is Collector, this is better than doing nothing, still there is no money to be made at it. I am boarding over here at present but board is verry high, and so also are rents, and houses scarce. dont know how long shall remain here but until something better turns up. My work is writing, and only I have a day from 10am to 3pm. By the way I may stand a chance to see you or your people. I believe you have relatives residing near here. Now if any of you should come down, you will certainly come and see us I say us as Mr. H. will be here this week. . No 12 Morris street, Jersey City is our boarding place at present. Did you notice a piece in Rochester Union and Advertiser respecting a certain one leg officer, written by one of the Regt while we were in Rochester. If not I will send you a paper. It has rained nearly all day, which makes the day seem dreary, and I am feeling quite lonesome. Saw Spencer and wife while home. Capt Snyder has gone into a Hotel seven miles from Ogd at Heuvelton he has bought it. I commenced or entered upon my duties, on the 2 inst like it well. have you gone into
