1. GENERAL
1.1. Purpose
This specification covers the minimum requirements for horizontal and vertical in-line single stage overhung
centrifugal pumps for use in process services in petrochemicals plants. Sealless pumps are not included in the
purpose of this specification. For these pumps, Repsol YPF ED-G-01.04-I specification shall be used.
Pumps cover by this specification shall not be used if one of the following limits is exceeded:

For services exceeding these values, pumps in accordance with Repsol YPF ED-G-01.00-I specification shall
be used.
This document is part of the latest edition of the REPSOL YPF technical specifications and refers to the latest
edition of the Standards and Codes that are mentioned, as well as the provisions of the Basic Design Data
(BDD) document, which covers the particular aspects for each project.
The design, fabrication, testing, documentation and preparation for shipment shall be in strict compliance with
the ISO 5199 standard dimensions according to ISO 2858 or with the ASME B.73.1 (for horizontal pumps)
and ASME B.73.2 (for vertical pumps) standards. Thermoplastic or polimeric pumps shall be in strict
compliance with ASME B.73.5 standard. The requirements of this specification amend or supplement the listed
standards; the vendor shall specify in his proposal which standard will be applied.
1.2. Order of priori ty
This specification, together with the data sheets, is part of the equipment requisition. In the event of conflict
between the documents included in the requisition, the following order of precedence shall govern:

1.3. Responsi bility
Exceptions, deviations, or clarifications to this specification shall be communicated to REPSOL YPF in writing.
Only those exceptions mentioned explicitly in the order can be accepted.
Compliance with this specification and/or other referenced specifications and standards, and/or information
given in the order does not relieve the vendor from its responsibility of providing suitable equipment for heavy
and continuous duty according to the specified service requirements.
1.4. Manufacturer s reference l i st
For a centrifugal pump to be considered technically acceptable, the supplier, at the time of the bid, shall have
manufactured at least two pumps that are similar in capacity, differential head, suction pressure, power,
impeller diameter, rotation speed, temperature, mechanical design, materials, and service, and the machinery
shall have been in continuous service for at least one year and be performing satisfactorily.

The equipment to be installed in the European Community shall be provided with CE Marking, and with a
Declaration of Conformity according to the applicable European Directives.
1.6. Al ternati ve desi gn
The Vendor may offer an alternative design providing sufficient detail to prove that it is technically superior.
1.7. Measuri ng uni ts
Unless other measurement units are specified in the BDD, the SI Units shall be used exclusively in the
technical documents, calculations and data sheets, except for ANSI flanges and for NPT taper pipe threads.

4. DESIGN
4.1. General
4.1.1. The Vendor shall indicate in his proposal which standard is applied in pumps design.
4.1.2. Pumps included in this specification shall be designed for 8000 hours of uninterrupted operation under nominal
operating conditions.

4.1.3. At the rated capacity the NPSH margin (NPSHA-NPSHR) shall be at least one meter, and for any other point
from the minimum continuous stable flow to 120% of the rated capacity, the NPSH margin shall be over 0.6
meters. Unless approved by REPSOL YPF, inducers are not acceptable.
4.1.4. If dissolved gases are present into the fluid, NPSHA considered for pumps selection shall be the half respect to
NPSHA indicated on process data sheet.
4.1.5. The suction specific speed shall not exceed 13.000, when the flow is expressed in m
3
/h, the NPSH in meters
and the speed in RPM.
4.1.6. When on the data sheet a fluid specific gravity range is specified, pump selection shall follow these
considerations:
Differential head shall be calculated with minimum specific gravity value.
Pump absorbed power shall be calculated with maximum specific gravity and viscosity values.
Design pressure shall be calculated with maximum specific gravity value.
4.1.7. The manufacturer shall specify in his tender the minimum and maximum capacity for the continuous operation
of the pump, considering temperature rise, vibration limits and NPSH limits.
4.1.8. All electric components and instruments shall be suitable for the area classification, gas group, and
temperature class specified by the purchaser in the Material Requisition. For equipment to be installed in the
European Community, compliance with the ATEX 94/9/EC Directive is required.
4.1.9. Unless otherwise specified, the equipment shall be designed for outdoor installation, in the climatic zone and
the environmental conditions stated in the BDD and without any additional protection.
4.1.10. The maximum allowable sound pressure level shall comply with the provisions of the corresponding chapter of
the REPSOL YPF ED-A-01.02-I specification, and the applicable addenda. The Vendor shall indicate the
equipments noise level in his proposal.
4.2. Characteri sti c curve
4.2.1. The impeller diameter shall not exceed 95% of the maximum allowable diameter, nor be smaller than 105% of
the minimum diameter for each type and size of impeller standardized by the manufacturer. The proposal shall
include the curves for the rated, minimum and maximum impeller diameters. In case that the impeller diameter
measured after the tests fails to comply with the above limits, REPSOL YPF reserves the right to provisionally
accept the pumps and to request replacement pumps that comply with this paragraph.
4.2.2. All pumps shall have a continuously increasing head-capacity curve from the rated point up to shut-off. The
shut-off head at rated speed shall be at least 110% of the head at rated capacity.
4.2.3. If parallel operation is specified, the difference between the total differential heads at the rated flow and at shut-
off among the pumps test curves shall be less than 1%.
4.2.4. Rated flow shall be within the region of 80% and 110% of best efficienty flowrate of the pump as furnished. The
best efficiency point for the pump as furnished should be between the rated point and the normal point.
4.2.5. Selection of pumps with rated flow less than 50% of best efficienty flowrate requires explicit approval by
REPSOL YPF. Normal and rated flow shall be always more than 20% of best efficienty flowrate.
4.2.6. Service factors indicated by Hydraulic Institute shall be used for pump dimensioning when fluid viscosity is
higher than water viscosity.
4.3. Nozzles and connections
4.3.1. Suction and discharge flanges shall conform to the dimensional requirements of ASME B16.5.

4.3.2. If the pump is not self-venting, vent connections with valve are required.
4.3.3. Unless a drain connection with valve is specified, drain connections with a round head plug according to ASME
B16.11 shall be supplied.
4.3.4. For pumps with discharge flange equal to or smaller than 2, drain and vent connections are required; for
pumps with discharge flange bigger than 2, drain and vent connections are required. Vent and drain piping
shall be of casing material Schedule 160 with socket weld connections.
4.3.5. When required, vent and drain gate valves with round head plug according to ASME B16.11 (without welding)
shall be supplied.
4.4. Rotors
4.4.1. Unless otherwise specified, impellers shall be of the fully enclosed type.
4.4.2. Impellers shall be keyed to the shaft. A cap nut shall be threaded to tighten by liquid drag on impeller during
normal rotation.
4.4.3. Shaft sleeves are not allowed, except for mechanical seal cartridge.
4.4.4. Rotor first critical speed shall be higher than 120% of pump maximum continuous operating speed.
4.4.5. The required balance grade for the impellers is G6,3 of ISO 1940 standard.
4.4.6. Run-out of rotor (including shaft and impellers wear rings) shall not exceed 0,05 mm (TIR).
4.4.7. The Vendor shall indicate in his proposal the shaft rigidity index according to the following formula:

4.5. Mechani cal seal s
4.5.1. Mechanical seal shall be Category 1 type according to ISO 21049 and shall comply with the requirements of
REPSOL YPF ED-G-05.00-I specification.
4.5.2. Seal system auxiliaries shall comply with the requirements of REPSOL YPF ED-G-05.00-I specification.
4.5.3. The design clearance between the shaft and the throat bushing shall be indicated on the pump sectional
drawing.
4.5.4. The mechanical seals shall be manufactured by of one of the following vendors:

BURGMANN
4.6. Lubri cati on, beari ngs and beari ng housings
4.6.1. Journal bearings shall be deep groove ball type with C3 mounting clearances or single row cylindrical roller
type; machined single-piece brass cages are required.

4.6.2. Thrust bearings shall be a couple of O configuration single row angular contact ball type (7200 or 7300
series); machined single-piece brass cages are required.
4.6.3. Bearings shall be manufactured by either SKF or FAG.
4.6.4. Tolerances and assembly fits shall be according to ISO 286.
4.6.5. The vendor shall indicate in the pump general drawing and instruction manuals whether the bearing assembly
requires clearance or preload on the internal and/or external rolling element races.
4.6.6. Oil lubrication shall be used. The vendor shall state on the data sheet the type of recommended REPSOL oil.
4.6.7. Pumps shall be designed for continuous operation without cooling water need. Oil temperature rise respect to
ambient temperature shall be less than 40C.
4.6.8. Following bearing housing auxiliaries shall be supplied:
NPT threaded openings of DN 25 on both side; one plugged, the other with a sight flow indicator.
Plug for vent connection
Magnetic plug for drain connection
Viton-A gaskets
INPRO/SEAL VB-XX-D labyrinth isolators or magnetic ISOMAG seals.
4.6.9. Unless otherwise specified, constant level oiler shall not be supplied.
4.6.10. Regardless of the type of lubrication indicated on the pump data sheet, the bearing housing shall meet the
requirements of this paragraph for a possible future installation of oil mist lubrication.
4.6.11. The materials of the bearing housing, including isolators, shall be compatible with synthetic oil.
4.7. Materi al s
4.7.1. Materials shall be identified by reference to ASTM o ISO.
4.7.2. Casings materials shall be carbon steel or alloy steel, according to the data sheet. Cast iron or grey cast iron
casings are not allowed regardless of the service.
4.7.3. 3.1.B certificates in accordance with UNE-EN 10204 are required for chemical composition and mechanical
properties of all the parts subject to pressure, components in contact with the pumped fluid, shafts, bearing
housings and adapters.
4.7.4. Before proceeding with repair of any pump component, the repair procedure shall be approved, in writing, by
REPSOL YPF.
4.7.5. Welding shall comply with the requirements of the REPSOL YPF ED-B-05.00-I specification.
4.8. Namepl ates and rotati on arrows
4.8.1. A nameplate and rotation arrow, both made of stainless steel, shall be securely attached at an readily visible
location on the equipment; fixing elements shall be of the same material.
4.8.2. Unless other language is specified, the nameplate shall be written in Spanish and the data in SI units.
4.8.3. The following information shall be stamped on the nameplate:

5. ACCESSORIES
5.1. Dri vers
5.1.1. Pumps shall be driven by electric motor that shall conform to REPSOL YPF ED-P-02.00-I specification.
5.1.2. Unless otherwise specified, the driver shall not be supplied by the pump manufacturer. The pump manufacturer
shall be responsible for the installation onto the baseplate and the alignment of the driver at his facilities.
5.1.3. Motors shall have power ratings, including service factor (if any), at least according to the following table,
considering the maximum absorbed power at any operating condition and including all seal system and gear
mechanical losses.

5.1.4. If parallel operation is specified or for pump working without any capacity o pressure control system, the power
of the drivers shall be sufficient to operate at the end of the pump curve, or as specified in the table shown

5.2.1. Coupling shall be flexible elements type, with spacer, not lubricated and shall be one of the following models:

BIBBY Turboflex DJ
JAURE Lamidisc DO
REXNORD THOMAS Serie 71
5.2.2. The coupling service factor shall be at least 1.5 related to the nominal driver power.
5.2.3. Non-sparking coupling guards shall be supplied. The guards shall comply with local safety requirements and
shall be constructed with sufficient rigidity to withstand a 1000N static point load in any direction without guard
contacting moving parts.
5.2.4. The maximum allowable misalignment, measured at the coupling hub outer diameter, shall be 0.05 mm (TIR),
both axially and radially. To avoid accumulation of run-out errors, while taking the readings both coupling
halves shall be rotated at the same time.
5.3. Basepl ates
5.3.1. Horizontal pumps shall be supplied shall with steel beams. All train components shall fall within the maximum
perimeter of the baseplate.
5.3.2. The pump and its baseplate shall be constructed with sufficient structural stiffness to withstand the maximum
allowable loads in the nozzle without exceeding the maximum allowable coupling misalignment (0,05 mm).
Grout shall not be used as a means of obtaining the required stiffness.
5.3.3. Shims shall not be used under the pump. All pads for drive train components shall be machined to allow for the
installation of shims at least 3 mm thick under each component.
5.3.4. If the vendor mounts the motor, a set of stainless steel shims of at lest 3 mm thick shall be furnished. Shims
pack shall not be thicker than 10 mm nor contain more than 5 shims. All shims pack shall extend beyond the
outer edge of the motor feet. If the vendor does not mount the motor, the pads shall not be drilled and shims
shall not be provided.
5.3.5. Baseplates shall have at least one grout hole with a diameter larger than 100 mm in each bulkhead section to
permit filling the entire cavity under the baseplate without creating air pockets. For each grout hole there shall
always be at least 4 vent holes at the corners.
5.3.6. The grout holes shall be accessible without moving the equipment installed on the baseplate.
5.3.7. A leveling screw shall be installed adjacent to each anchor bolt. These screws shall be stiff enough to carry the
weight of the complete train components before grouting.
5.3.8. Transverse alignment positioning jackscrews shall be provided for electric motor; in addition for drivers with
nameplate rating higher than 15 kW, axial alignment jackscrew shall be supplied.
5.3.9. The driver mounting pads on the baseplate shall be fully machined flat and parallel. Corresponding surfaces
shall be in the same plan within 0,15 mm per meter of distance between the pads.
5.3.10. All vertical in-line pumps shall be supplied with a machined surface at the casing base.
5.4. Speci al tool s
If special tools are required for maintenance they shall be furnished by the Vendor.

6.1. General
6.1.1. Access for inspection
The purchasers representative shall have entry to all vendor and subvendor plants where manufacturing,
testing, or the inspection of the equipment is in progress.
6.1.2. Advance notice for inspection
The vendor shall provide ten days notice to the Purchaser before conducting any inspection or test that the
purchaser has specified as to be witnessed or observed. The vendors inspection points program shall consider
as hold points all the tests that the purchaser has specified as to be witnessed.
6.1.3. Test procedures
Test procedures shall be provided as required by the material requisition. Unless stated otherwise in the
material requisition, the vendor shall submit to REPSOL YPF, for his review and comment, detailed procedures
for all tests specified as to be witnessed at least 4 weeks before the first scheduled test . Witnessed tests shall
not be carried out until the test procedure has been approved by REPSOL YPF.
6.1.4. Material certificates
The purchasers representative shall have access to the material certificates of the main components to check
that they were manufactured with the specified material.
6.1.5. Witnessed tests
In addition to the tests specified on the data sheet, the following tests are always required. The manufacturer
shall furnish certificates of all tests -regardless of whether they are witnessed or not-, which shall be signed by
the inspector prior to authorizing the shipment.
Hydrostatic It shall only be witnessed for pumps with high alloy steel casing.
Performance it shall be witnessed for all pumps.
NPSH Witnessed when required.
Final Inspection It shall be witnessed for all pumps

6.2. Testi ng
6.2.1. Hydrostatic test
Upon completion of the hydrostatic test, the following shall be checked:

6.2.2. Performance test

The vendor shall take test data at the following points: shutoff, minimum continuous stable flow, rated flow,
BEP, 120% of rated flow and additional point decided by inspector.
A certificate with test curves (flow-head, efficiency, absorbed power) is required.
During performance test, following data shall be recorded:

The minimum test duration shall be two hours. The duration of the test shall be long enough for the temperature
of the bearings to stabilize. Bearing cooling during the test is not allowed.
Vibration measuments shall be taken on each bearing housing (horizontal, vertical and axial direction) at the
following points:

Acceptance criteria will be according to ANSI/HI 1.6, Level A. For the absorbed power, the tolerance will be
+4% (not adding diffrential head tolerances).
6.2.3. NPSH test
A NPSH test shall be required if the NPSH margin is lower than two meters of liquid column. Positive
tolerances on NPSHR nominal value are not acceptable.
6.2.4. Dismantling for internal inspection
If specified on the data sheet, upon successful completion of the performance test the pump shall be
dismantled for visual inspection, and for the following checks of dimensions and tolerances:

6.2.5. Final inspection
Prior to issuing the shipping release, a final inspection of the pump and the driver mounted on the baseplate
shall be performed, with all the auxiliary systems installed. During this inspection the following items shall be
checked, at least:

6.3. Preparation for shipment
Auxiliary piping and systems shall be thoroughly cleaned prior to the assembly of the unit. All flanged openings
shall be provided with metal closures, with elastomer gaskets and at least four bolts to prevent the entry of dirt
and to avoid damages to the flange faces.
In any case, preparation for shipment shall be in accordance with REPSOL-YPF ED-B-01.00-I specification.
6.4. Painting
Unless otherwise specified, painting shall be in accordance with REPSOL-YPF EC-B57 specification. The
Manufacturer standard painting procedure may be acceptable for the pump, provided that it is suitable for
outdoor installation in a process plant with marine environment.
7. DRAWINGS AND INFORMATION
7.1. Proposal s
The proposal shall include a statement of compliance with the requirements of the enquiry requisition.
Otherwise, a detailed list of deviations shall be submitted (showing which document and paragraph refers to
and the technical explanation for each deviation).
Together with the proposal, the following information shall be supplied:
........................... Preliminary general arrangement with dimensions
.......................... Sectional drawing
.......................... Filled data sheet
.......................... Characteristic curves
.......................... A list of references of similar equipment in similar services
7.2. Contract data
The number of copies and issue dates of the drawings and documents required from the Vendor shall be
indicated in the Material Requisition.
After the order, the following documents shall be supplied:
.......................... Final general arrangement drawing
.......................... Load drawing, with indication of moments and forces
.......................... Pump and mechanical seal cross-sectional drawing and exploded view
.......................... Orientation and elevation of nozzles and auxiliaries connections drawing
.......................... Filled data sheet
.......................... Mechanical seal auxiliary system schematic
.......................... Inspection points program

7.3. Recommended spare parts
The spare parts shall be part of the scope of supply. The spare parts for the start-up shall be delivered with the
units.
The spare parts criteria shall be in accordance with REPSOL-YPF NRM-317 document. For equipment types
not covered in the NRM-317 standard, the engineering contractor shall include the spare parts requirements in
the material requisition.
7.4. Manual s
Unless otherwise indicated , the installation, operation and maintenance manuals shall be in Spanish.
