0.8 SAFETY NOTICES AND ADMONISHMENTS


This document contains safety notices in accordance with appropriate standards. In the interests of conformity with the territory standards for the country concerned, the equivalent territorial admonishments are also shown. Any installation, adjustment, maintenance and repair of the equipment must only be carried out by trained, authorised personnel. At all times, personnel must comply with any safety notices and instructions. Specific hazards are indicated by symbol labels on or near the affected parts of the equipment. The labels conform to international standards, are triangular in shape, and are coloured black on a yellow background. An informative text label may accompany the symbol label. Hazard labelling is supplemented by safety notices in the appropriate equipment manual. These notices contain additional information on the nature of the hazard and may also specify precautions.
Warning Notices:

These draw the attention of personnel to hazards that may cause death or injury to the operator or others. Examples of use are cases of high voltage, laser emission, toxic substances, point of high temperature, etc. Alert Notices: These draw the attention of personnel to hazards that may cause damage to the equipment. An example of use is the case of static electricity hazard. Caution notices may also be used in the handbook to draw attention to matters that do not constitute a risk of causing damage to the equipment but where there is a possibility of seriously impairing its performance, e.g. by mishandling or gross maladjustment. Warnings and Cautions within the main text do not incorporate labels and may be in shortened form.

0.9 SERVICING POLICY AND RETURN OF EQUIPMENT


The repair of individual units and modules of this equipment is not considered practicable without factory facilities. It is, therefore, the policy of Comba whereby faulty units or modules are returned to the local agent for repair. To enable an efficient and prompt after sales service for the diagnosis, repair and return of any faulty equipment, please comply with the following requirements. Items to be sent for repair should be packaged so as to provide both electrostatic and physical protection and a Repair Material Authorization (RMA) should be completed giving the required information. A sample RMA form is provided in Appendix A. This request must be included with the item for repair. Items for repair should be sent to the nearest Comba office: COMBA TELECOM LTD. GENERAL INFORMATION

Comba produces self-proprietary windows-based OMT software for controlling and maintaining Comba repeater and booster products, either by local connection via RS-232 cable or remote connection via line / wireless modem. Generally, one product is produced with one OMT software, except that products based on self-proprietary EP42 or later monitoring platform share one common software (OMT v3.20 or later). The OMT Explorer V2.20 is produced to facilitate the management of all kinds of Combas OMT software. By incorporating product software into OMT Explorer V2.20, users need not worry about having some software lost and can easily find the desired software when performing operation and maintenance of Comba repeater and booster products at any time and any place.

1.1 VERSION INFORMATION


OMT Explorer v2.20 is upgraded from OMT Explorer V2.10. It is designed to be backward compatible. That means that the product OMT software designed to be integrated into OMT Explorer V2.10 can also be embedded into OMT Explorer v2.20. Two versions of OMT Explorer v2.20 are available, refer to the table underneath: Lite Version: It is only provided with OMT Explorer framework features. No OMT software has been incorporated. It is designed for customers use. It should be used in conjunction with product OMT software. Typically, it along with product OMT software is shipped with product to customers. It has incorporated all officially released software developed by July 2007, including the software specifically developed for customized products for ADC and AVS OEMs. It is designed for internal use by authorized persons, say testing and maintenance persons.

1.2 MAIN FEATURES


Combined with the features of OMT Explorer V2.10, new features have been added to OMT Explorer v2.20, as described below:

Centralized management of OMT software. Pull down menus and shortcut buttons are available. GUI operation interface Easy and flexible for upgrade with enhanced functionality Provides detailed descriptions of product type for the matching OMT software Enhanced auto-connection feature Enhanced search function for OMT software based on either product type, product model number or any word of product description OMT software is categorized by three types: Product Class, Network Type and Vender. OMT software for new products developed by July 2007 is incorporated (complete version only) Incorporated all OMT upgrade packages developed by July 2007 for overseas market (complete version only).

INSTALLATION

2.1 ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR OMT OPERATION


Before installation of the OMT, ensure that the following requirements are met. a) Minimal Hardware Requirements:

CPU: Pentium 2 processor at 300MHz RAM: 128MB HDD: 1GB VGA: 14 inch, with 800600 resolution Serial cable (labelled "9122) supplied with the equipment Modem (either type may be used)

Wireline modem : 56K modem Wireless modem : Wavecom wireless modem, with SIM card supporting data and SMS functions

b) Operating System (OS) Requirements: English version of the following OS can be used:

Win98 SE Win Me Windows NT Workstation / Windows NT Server Windows 2000 Professional with SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4 Windows 2000 Server Edition with SP1, SP2, SP3 Windows XP Professional with SP1

Comba recommends: Windows XP Professional.

2.2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES


Insert the installation disk of OMT Explorer into the CD-ROM drive. The installation package on the OMT CD includes two parts: Complete Version and Lite Version. Part A: Installation of Complete Version OMT Explorer On the OMT CD go to the installation package folder OMT Explorer with Pack and double-click OMT Explorer software setup icon .In the windows that follow, select the item in red circle until installation completes.

Press [Finish] button to complete the installation. At this stage the OMT Explorer shortcut icon appears on the desktop.

Part B: Installation of Lite Version OMT Explorer On the OMT CD go to the installation package folder OMT Explorer without Pack and double-click OMT Explorer software setup icon . The remainder is similar to the installation of Complete Version OMT Explorer as described in previous paragraph. After installing the Lite Version OMT Explorer, user needs to install the desired product OMT software, otherwise, commissioning and/or maintenance of the equipment are not possible.

GET STARTED

3.1 PREPARATION
Before get OMT software started, physical connection between OMT computer and equipment must be made. Connection between OMT computer and equipment can be made either via RS-232 cable (local connection) or line / wireless modem (remote connection). Local Connection Connect the RS-232 port of the equipment to the serial port of the OMT computer using the RS-232 cable supplied, as shown in the figure below.

Remote Connection Remote connection between equipment and OMT computer is realized by wireless or wireline modem, see the following figure.

3.2 START-UP
After installation completes, double click the OMT Explorer v2.20 shortcut icon on the desktop and enter the default password 888888 in the window that follows. The OMT Explorer Screen will open up as shown in the figure underneath.

The following figure shows the OMT Explorer v2.20 main screen.

As the figure shows that the main screen consists of four parts: Part -1 Command Menu Bar: For each menu, sub menus for each command can be selected. On the upper right of the screen, select the icon user can add or remove wanted/unwanted menu item. Toolbar: Shows some shortcut buttons. User can select the icon on the Toolbar to add or remove wanted/unwanted shortcut buttons to/from the Toolbar. Product List window: Shows specific product OMT software. Product OMT is classified into three groups by Product Class, Network Type and Vender. Click the icon and selecting the corresponding class, all the OMT software of that group will be displayed in this interface. For example, the window above shows that the software is classified by Vender, and part of the OMT software of Comba is displayed. Product Information window: Shows the product information, such as product description, product model number, and OMT version information for the selected OMT software in Part- 3. 4.1 COMMAND MENU BAR


This is identified as part 1 of the OMT Explorer screen. The command menu bar of the window presents the options, System and Help, where commands can be executed.

SYSTEM MENU:

AutoLink When huge amount of product OMT software is embedded to the OMT Explorer, it is not easy for user to find the desired product OMT software. This function enables user to connect the OMT software to the equipment easily by automatically searching the matching software embedded. Selecting this item a pop-up window will appear, as shown in Figure 11. In this window, user can choose to locally or remotely connect to the equipment. For local connection, please make sure that the connection between equipment and the OMT computer is made. Then, select the right port that is used and press [ONLINE] button to continue.

For remote connection, user is additionally required to select the right type of the modem that is installed in the equipment and enter the SIM card number attached to the modem. Then press [ONLINE] button to continue.

Search This function allows user to search the required OMT software. Selecting this item the following window will appear.

In the [Product model] field enter the product model number as shown in the figure for example RD-9120. Press the

button or Enter key the matching OMT software will be displayed in the interface.

Refresh Clicking this item to refresh the OMT Explorer software screen.

Change Password This function allows user to change the login password for OMT Explorer v2.20.

Quit Selecting this item to exit the OMT Explorer software.

HELP MENU

The Help menu has one sub-menu: About. This command is used to display the OMT Explorer version information. Clicking icon on the toolbar performs the same functions.

4.1.3

CUSTOMIZATION FOR PULL DOWN MENUS

OMT Explorer v2.20 provides user with function to add or remove the command menu item to / from the Command Menu Bar in the screen. Click the icon on the upper right of the screen, drop down menus will be shown, refer to the following figure. User can remove the menu item from the Command Menu Bar as defined in Part-1 by un-selecting the item. Select Reset Toolbar will restore the default setting.

4.2 TOOLBAR
This is identified as part 2 of the OMT Explorer screen. The following figure shows the toolbar.

Sub-menu

Function Automatically search the matching software embedded in OMT Explorer v2.20 for the equipment. Searches for the software that user requires. Refreshes the OMT Explorer software. Exits the OMT Explorer software. Table 2: OMT Explorer Toolbar Description

4.2.1

CUSTOMIZATION FOR TOOLBAR

OMT Explorer v2.20 provides user with function to add or remove the shortcut button(s) to / from the Toolbar the screen. Click the icon on the upper right of the screen, drop down menus will be shown, refer to the following figure. User can remove the shortcut button from the Toolbar as defined in Part-2 by un-selecting the item. Select Reset Toolbar will restore the default setting.

USER PRIVILEGE MODIFICATION VIA REGISTRY EDITOR

There may exist the case where OMT Explorer software cannot be started. This is probably because that the user privilege is limited. Only SuperUser is able to start OMT Explorer and run the OMT software embedded. When OMT Explorer cannot get started, please check and modify the user privilege by log into the Registry Editor window. Restart the computer or log off the computer and re-log into the computer using the SuperUser Administrator. After entering to the Windows system, select Start -> Run, and fill in regedit in the window that follows, as shown below. Press [Ok] button to open the Registry Editor window in Figure 19.

Only when OS system is Windows XP or Windows 2003 or later version, can this function be available.

In the window in Figure 19 find [OMT V2.10] (when OMT Explorer is upgraded from OMT Explorer V2.10) or [OMT v2.20] (when first time to have installed OMT Explorer) from [RDComba]. Right click on either of them and select [Permissions] in the pop-up menu. The window underneath will appear. In this window, select the name of the user that needs to run OMT software in the upper part of the window. In the lower part, select Allow -> Full Control. At this stage, the user is able to run OMT software.
