Human Trafficking in the U.S.A

Many people believe that human trafficking is the same no matter where you go. In the United States, we are dealing with a completely different form of this crime. Though sexual abuse at a young age also contributes to trafficking in many other countries around the world, it is one of the LEADING reasons why we see trafficking so heavily here in the States. Girls who grow up being sexually abused are much more likely to enter the sex industry because if someone can take a part of them away by force, many believe that they might as well be getting paid for it. Another misconception The culture of the U.S. also contributes to the way that we view trafficking. Young girls with low self-esteems are actually recruited by thirteen and fourteen yearabout trafficking is that pimps are only male. We tend to look at trafficking and blame the men in the United States for buying girls and selling them. We old girls. The older girls have been approached by pimps but have declined. Because of this, the pimp will pay the older girls (or give them expensive gifts) if they are able to recruit young girls to do the dirty work that they are unwilling to do themselves. This is a sick realization. We need to teach our girls that this is not how we treat the women around us. Empowering women can change more than just one life. We need strong moms, aunts, grandmothers and mentors to be the ones who stand up and tell the girls in their lives about whats happening within our own education system. Ladies, listen up: How can we expect others to regard us as equal if we are so brutal to other women around us? also target the Johns who buy sex, and we begin to believe that all men are bad. But in all reality, while it is predominately men selling these girls over and over again, women are selling women, too! They play the same mind games. In fact, many would argue that the women are just as tough (if not tougher) than their male counterparts. We have definitely got a problem if the women in our society cant even restrain themselves from demeaning their own kind.

7 STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO FIGHT TRAFFICKING Care Record what you see Speak Up Pass it on and ADVOCATE Stay connected Practice personal purity and prayer Create a plan on how YOU are going to END human trafficking in your area.

Take a moment to appreciate and compliment the women around you today, whether you like them or not. It may be the first sincere compliment they have heard in a long time.

What NCC Is Doing

For those of you who do not already know, New Creation Cupcakes has been partnering with Eves Angels in Grand Rapids. Eves Angels is a non-profit ministry that

assists women in the sex industry to find hope through the love of God. One of the ways they do this is by reaching out to the local strip clubs and bringing the love of Jesus with them. They provide the presence of God and His light in places where only darkness is typically found. They love on the women in the clubs without judging or condemning them. Sometimes they bring gifts bags or goodies. That is where NCC comes in. New Creation Cupcakes goes on outreach with Eves Angels spreading the love of God to women through our cupcakes. NCC has also been going to local safe houses to reach out to the women and teach them how to bake. Our desire is to provide these women with an alternative source of income for their future and by teaching them to bake we hope that they will learn the skills necessary to escape their past and start a new life . In August of this year, New Creation Cupcakes will be attending Abolition Summit 2014 hosted by Exodus Cry. This is a 3-day conference where all three staff members of NCC, along with our husbands, will receive further training on how to effectively combat human trafficking in our own communities. If you have any questions or would like help us get to Abolition Diana Jacobson Summit, please feel free to contact me.
