This standard is not applicable for pressure vessels and piping systems of machine units, and does not cover running tests or other functional tests of machines. Statements made in the purchase order (P.O.) and project specifications shall have priority over the requirements of this standard. It shall be noted that specific requirements for corrosive service apply additionally, if specified in the P.O.
Normative references
This standard contains provisions which, through undated references in this text, constitute provisions of other publications. The normative references are cited at the respective part in the text and the publications are listed in annex A. Issues valid at the time of placement of order shall govern.

The Vendor and his Subvendors shall operate a quality management system suitable for their work. Linde reserves the right to review the quality management systems at Vendors/Subvendors shops. Operating a quality management system implies that the Vendor as well as his Subvendors are using skilled and/or qualified personnel and are in possession of all necessary manufacturing and testing equipment, to handle the purchase order in a professional manner.
The general requirements for materials are defined in EN 1559-1, -2 and -3 and API 617, whichever is specified in the Purchase Order (P.O.) or other applicable project specifications.
5.1
Selection of Materials
Vendor is responsible to select proper materials suitable for the operating data specified by Linde for the machine, taking into account the requirements of this standard. Selected materials are subject to final acceptance by Linde. Materials according to other standards than EN or ASTM/API shall be specified by Vendor (with full chemical analysis, heat treatment, mechanical properties, testing, certification as well as reference to equivalent materials to above mentioned standards) together with his quotation, for acceptance by Linde. Chemical analysis, mechanical properties and tests shall fully conform to the material standards applied. In addition unalloyed C- and C-Mn-steel plates and forgings intended for welding operations shall meet the following requirements: Yield strength 370 N/mm (53 ksi) and tensile strength 500 N/mm (72 ksi) with minimum values each according to the material standard applied; Carbon content 0,25 %.
5.2
Before non-destructive examination and/or assembly of the machine parts, each part shall be cleaned by pickling (free of chloride) or by other appropriate methods, to remove foreign materials, mill scale, etc. Grinding disks used on ferritic steels shall not be used on austenitic stainless steels or high nickel alloys. Major components shall be properly marked for traceability against material certificates.

Use of EN 1561 type EN-GJL-350 and ASTM A 278 Cl. 35 and higher need prior written approval by Linde. Grey cast iron EN 1561, type EN-GJL-200 and EN-GJL-250 and ASTM A 278 Cl. 20 and Cl. 25 may be used for piston-type compressor casings in liquefied gas service at temperatures not below -105 C, if the following is fulfilled: Hydrostatic pressure test with 1,5 times the maximum allowable working pressure, but not less than 20 psi (1,4 bar); Vendor shall submit to Linde references for the intended service for acceptance.

NDE of Castings
All sections have to be tested by a surface and volume examination method according to the specified standard. For the required standards for NDE and acceptance criteria of steel castings refer to table 1. NDE personnel shall be qualified according to table 2. In case of special requirements for the surface quality or the surface roughness, they will be specified in the project documents. For NDE the castings shall be sound and free from porosity, hot tears, shrink holes, cracks, scale, blisters and similar injurious defects. Reports for all NDE performed are required and shall be included into the final documentation. Welding specifications shall be observed for each welding operation. Welding consumables shall be of similar analysis as the base material with comparable minimum tensile properties and sufficient toughness. The root of weld seams shall be removed to sound metal by flame cutting or chipping followed by grinding or machining. All fabricated castings, regardless of thickness, shall be postweld heat treated. No welding is permitted after final heat treatment. Otherwise re-heat treatment is required. All welding on spheroidal cast iron as well as grey cast iron require prior written approval by Linde.
