s that will teach them how to conduct themselves during class discussions. They will also be reminded of the difference between theme, motif and symbol. CCSS CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.11-12.1c Propel conversations by posing and responding to questions that probe reasoning and evidence; ensure a hearing for a full range of positions on a topic or issue; clarify, verify, or challenge ideas and conclusions; and promote divergent and creative perspectives. Background Students will have read chapters 7-8 of Wuthering Heights the previous night Materials Computer with projector, dry erase markers, laminated sheets, blog printouts Prep Open PPT to the reading check; have Prezi ready and open, too Procedure 1. Talk about last nights reading checks clarify what I am looking for: more specificity! Show me youve read. a. Bring up the reading check question in the PPT. Read it aloud. Students have time to answer the reading check question on the PPT and turn in their answer to the folder while I take attendance (~10 min) 2. After the reading check question, we will do the reading check game for participation grades in which I will call out numbers and ask corresponding questions (~15 min) a. Call numbers 1-4 in random order, with a question for each b. I will ask a question and students with the corresponding number on their desks will write their answer on their white board and hold them up c. Each student has 2 chances to get a question right; if they get their first one wrong they must try the proceeding question for the next number d. Go until everyone is done with their chances 3. Go over example vocab paragraph on the board and explain the directions due Thursday (~ 5 min) 4. Pass out blog articles. Students will read them silently and begin answering the questions after the article on their own (~10 min) 5. Explain expectations for whole group discussions raised hands, no interrupting or talking over, respectful words, etc. (~2 min) 6. We will go over the answers to the questions as a group. I will have extra questions to ask after we are done with those on the article sheet. (time remaining)

Are you on Team Heathcliff or Team Linton? What do you think of Cathy as a character? Are you sympathetic towards her? How has social class become an issue in the novel? What about gender issues? Do you see any that are problematic in the novel?
