Production systems play a very important role in achieving organizational excellence. But the lack of proper planning, coordination and control often affects the capabilities of these systems because of which these systems are not utilized fully and effectively leading to many undesirable situations forcing many organizations to become less competitive. A number of organizations worldwide have achieved and sustained excellence by effective production

management. Vengapally Village Industries Co-Operative Society Ltd. (VICOS). is the leading tile unit in Kerala and is well equipped with the state of the art machinery. With world class styling, hard to beat features and unbeatable quality, their building products have been redefining building industry. This study on VICOS, examines the various functions in production management.

1.1 RESEARCH PROBLEM This study analyzes the production management in Vengapally Village Industries Co-operative Society Ltd. (VICOS). This study deals with the Organization structure of the company and production process of various types of tiles. This study helps to find out the present state of the company and put forward the suggestions by examining its functional areas.

1.2 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY To understand the production management in Vengapally Village Industries Co-Operative Society Ltd. (VICOS). To study the production process of the Tiles. To study the organizational structure of the company. To understand the raw materials used for tile manufacturing. To know about various products of the company.

1.3 METHODOLOGY Methodology is a way to systematically solve the research problems. It helps in studying how research is done scientifically. Methodology provides various steps that can be adopted by the researcher in studying the research problems. Research methodology includes not only research but also considers the logic behind that method. Collection of Data Primary and secondary data are used for this study. Primary Data Primary Data are those data collected by the investigator himself. In this study, primary data collected through interview and observation. The first had data collected and made available from VICOS are used as primary data for the purpose of research. Secondary Data Secondary data are those data which have already been collected by someone, which have already been through statistical process. Secondary data were collected from books, records, annual reports and other periodicals publications.

1.4 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

The non availability of published or unpublished data which restricted the depth and quality of the study to some extent. Mainly the study is based on primary data and secondary data is also taken into consideration for the purpose of data collection. Some degree of discrepancy might have kept in between actual information and expressed responses.
