1. The Junior Challenge is open to Malaysian citzens aged 7 to 9 who are enrolled in natonal, natonaltype and
private schools using the Malaysian natonal educaton system. artcipants will !e allowed to enter the com" petton at any o# the #our venues listed on the entry #orm. $egistraton o# partcipants is on a %rst"come, %rst" served !asis. &al'"ins are allowed, !ut only the %rst eighty ()*+ partcipants will !e accepted to partcipate in the Junior Challenge at each o# the listed venues.

2. ,ach partcipant must #ully complete the original entry #orm pu!lished in the -ew .traits Times to pre"register.
/ncomplete and illegi!le #orms will not !e entertained. hotocopied #orms will not !e accepted.

3. ,ach partcipant must !e accompanied !y an adult (0) years and a!ove+ who is re1uired to stay with the part"
cipant untl the end o# the challenge duraton.

4. /n the event that the -ominated person in Clause 2 a!ove is una!le to a3end the Junior Challenge, he4she is re "
1uired to %nd a replacement to accompany the partcipant(s+ on the event date. The nominated person shall is " sue an authorisaton le3er to his4her replacement. The organisers shall have the right to dis1uali#y the part" cipants #rom the challenge should his4her replacement #ail to produce the authorisaton le3er.

5. /n re#erence to Clause 2 and 5 a!ove. The nominated person shall !e #ully responsi!le #or his4her replacement6s
actons. The organisers shall not !e responsi!le and shall !e indemni%ed and !e held harmless against all ac " tons, suits, claims, lia!ilites, losses, e7penses and4or damages with respect to any claims arising out o# any death, or personal in8ury, loss or damage.

6. 9y su!mi:ng the entry #orm, it is deemed that the partcipants6 parents and4or guardians have given their
consent to the partcipant to ta'e part in the challenge and empowered the accompanying person to ma'e any decisions necessary on !ehal# o# the partcipant.

7. The entry #orm must !e #a7ed to ./$ $egistraton .ecretariat, The -ew .traits Times ress (M+ 9hd at *2";*<=
707) no later than the deadlines stated on the entry #orm. roo# o# #a7 delivery is not proo# o# receipt o# entry #orms. .uccess#ul registratons will !e not%ed via phone or email, which will include a con%rmaton le3er. ). The organisers reserve the right to re8ect any entry without giving any reasons whatsoever. 9. >n the day o# the challenge, the partcipant6s accompanying person M?.T !ring along the partcipant6s original entry #orm, con%rmaton le3er #rom the -ew .traits Times, and cert%ed true copy o# the partcipant6s /dentty Card and4or 9irth Cert%cate.

10. @ll partcipants must !e in #ull school uni#orm #or the Junior Challenge. 11. -o aids will !e allowed in the hall, on stage or on partcipants. Aor e7ample, no pens, paper, M 2 players or

12. -o discussion or promptng will !e allowed !etween partcipants or #rom anyone in the hall or on stage. @

14. The tme allocated to spell a word is twenty (;*+ seconds. The partcipant will !e dis1uali%ed i# a partcipant #ails
to complete spelling the word in the given tme#rame. 0<. /n the case o# a dispute (#or e7ample, mispronunciaton, uncertainty o# word use, tme or distractons+ the decision will !e %nal aBer consultaton with the Mem!ers o# the >rganising anel at each venue. .hould there !e a dispute on the words !e#ore the %nal announcement and close o# a challenge, the organisers are well within their rights to recall %nal partcipants #or a re"match to ascertain the true winner4champion. The resenter will have a!solute discreton over the conduct o# proceedings. -o appeals and o!8ectons #or any reason whatsoever will !e entertained. 0=. The organisers may at their discreton re#use any entry and cancel or postpone the event without due notce in the event o# un#oreseen circumstances. -o claims o# any 'ind arising #rom the a!andonment, cancellaton and4or postponement o# the event shall !e entertained.

Time4.core'eeper. ;. @n additonal two (;+ administrators will manage the aisles and assist partcipants to come #orward #or their turn to spell and return them to their seats, and escort partcipants who are eliminated. 2. The resenter will !e the %nal authority aBer consultaton with the 8udge and auditor on the spelling su!" mi3ed !y a partcipant. 5. @t the start o# the challenge, the resenter will lay down the rules #or the audience and do a 1uic' !rie# on how the challenge process will wor'. <. The resenter will introduce the panel and other administrators. =. The resenter will %rst pronounce the word to !e spelt, then de%ne the word and then use it in a sentence. The resenter then invites the partcipant to spell the word. 7. The partcipant will then have twenty (;*+ seconds to spell the word. The !uzzer will ring aBer a period o# e7actly twenty (;*+ seconds. 8. The second pronunciaton o# the word is deemed as % " nal su!mission o# that word and its spelling. <. /# the partcipant gets the spelling correct, he or she will !e as'ed to return to his or her seat and enter the ne7t round. =. /# the partcipant misspells a word or does not complete the spelling o# the word when the tme is up, he or she is immediately eliminated #rom the challenge. -o chances will !e given #or respelling a word. 7. /# the partcipant misspells a word, he or she must remain at the microphone untl the resenter provides the correct spelling o# the word. ). /# the partcipant starts spelling and stops midway, he or she can restart spelling the word #rom the %rst le3er, provided (a+ the %nal su!mission (see num!er <+ has not ta'en place and provided (!+ that the second a3empt is completed within the twenty (;*+ seconds. 9. @Ber the %rst partcipant has %nished his4her turn, the resenter will call the ne7t partcipant. 10.
