The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology 3AUST5 is offering a four$year undergraduate degree program since the esta,lishment of AUST in the year %//&( The degree program is spread over eight semesters 7ith t7o semesters per academic year( The present inta#e of the students per calendar year is 200 students in four sections, each of &0 students( The class si e has ,een limited to &0 students in the interest of effective teaching( There are no7 a,out ?00 students studying in the department( 8ine ,atches of students have graduated and are employed in different technical organi ations in home and a,road( There are no7 21 full time teachers of the department together 7ith a,out 00 part time teachers( -art time teachers are senior teachers of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology 3BUET5( The aim of engineering education is to impart to the students up$ to$date theoretical and practical #no7ledge of the particular ,ranch of engineering( :onse>uently the undergraduate courses offered to the students have ,een designed considering the courses offered in BUET and some foreign universities, #eeping in vie7 the ever$increasing hori on of Electrical and Electronic Engineering( *t may ,e mentioned here that a num,er of students of EEE Department of AUST got transferred to US Universities 7ith credit transfer of courses ta#en at AUST( The department has already developed its o7n la,oratories in such areas as Electrical :ircuits, Electronics, Digital Electronics, Electrical 'achines, Telecommunications, :ontrol Systems, S7itchgear and -rotection, -o7er Systems, 'icro7aves, 'icroprocessors, @AS* Design and Digital Signal -rocessing( The department favors interaction ,et7een University and industry and, in this connection, some of the activities of the department are.

3iii5 :learance e4amination 3for clearance of the course3s5 not passed in the current semester or in the previous semester3s5, if any5 3iv5 *mprovement e4amination, if any( The performance of a student in a sessional9practical su,"ect 7ill ,e ,ased on attendance, class performance, >ui es, assignment, viva, reports, practical e4amination etc( The continuous assessment and the semester final e4amination 7ill form regular e4amination system 7hile the clearance e4amination and the improvement e4amination 7ill provide additional opportunities to the students( The distri,ution of mar#s ,et7een the continuous assessment and the semester final e4amination 7ill ,e as follo7s. i( ii( iii( :lass participation 3i(e( attendance, class performance etc(5 Dui es and9or assignments Semester final e4amination T#"%l %0C 20C E0C %00C

The num,er of >ui es and9or assignments in a course of study shall ordinarily ,e n F %, 7here n is the num,er of credits of the course( Evaluation of the performance 7ill ,e on the ,asis of the ,est n >ui es and9or assignments( :learance e4amination in a course 7ill ,e held only for those students o,taining a grade G<G 3failed the course5 in the course in regular e4aminations( :learance e4aminations 7ill ,e held over a period of % to 2 7ee#s at the end of each semester( :learance e4amination in a course 7ill carry E0C of the total mar#s assigned to the course, the rest 00C 7ill ,e entered from the record of continuous assessment secured earlier ,y the student 7hen he9she attended the classes( Whatever is the total mar#, the ma4imum attaina,le grade in the clearance e4amination is G:G(

A student o,taining G<G grade in a ma4imum of 2 3t7o5 theoretical courses in any semester 7ill also ,e promoted to the ne4t higher semester 7ith carry over in the failed theory courses provided that he9she has passed in the rest of the theoretical and practical9sessional courses of the semester( But the ma4imum allo7a,le cumulative num,er of such carryover courses of the present and the previous semester3s5 of the student concerned for promotion is 2 3four5( The students can clear the ,ac#log of the carry over course3s5 in the clearance e4aminations of the relevant semester of the successive ,atches( The e4amination H grading of the carry over e4aminations 7ill ,e in the same manner as clearance e4amination( *f the num,er of carry over courses of a student e4ceeds the allo7a,le limit, the student 7ill not ,e promoted to the su,se>uent semester( The student can proceed to the ne4t higher semester only after reducing the num,er 7ithin the allo7a,le limit( 'ean7hile, he9she can appear in the relevant clearance e4amination 7ith a vie7 to clear the ,ac#log of the carry over course3s5 of the previous semester3s5( <or appearing in the carry over e4aminations, the students are re>uired to apply for enrollment 7ithin due time in the prescri,ed form availa,le in the e4amination section of the University( A student can re$register ,y a 7ritten application in the course3s5 3,oth theoretical H practical5 of the previous semester he9she failed( The student may also ,e allo7ed on a 7ritten application to re$register for any or all course3s5 of the semester in 7hich he9she secured any passing grade3s5 in the course3s5( )o7ever, the grade3s5 in the re$registered course3s5 7ill ,e considered for result and ;rade -oint Average 3;(-(A(5 and the previous grade3s5 7ill ,e recorded in the transcript9grade card only for chronological se>uence( The students are re>uired to apply in the prescri,ed application form availa,le in the office of the !egistrar for re$registration( The application form duly filled in 7ill ,e su,mitted to the office 7ithin 2 7ee#s of the commencement of the classes( <or the purpose of grade improvement, a student o,taining a grade lo7er than GBG in a course can sit in the relevant

*mprovement e4amination ,y canceling his9 her earlier passing grade of the course( The improvement e4amination in a course 7ill carry E0C of the total mar# assigned to the course and li#e the clearance e4amination the rest of the mar# 7ill ,e entered from the record of the continuous assessment secured earlier ,y the student( Whatever is the total mar# of the improvement e4amination, a student 7ill ,e allo7ed to earn at ,est a grade GBG for the course( And the previous grade 7ill ,e recorded in the transcript9grade card only for chronological se>uence( Whatsoever, a student in a 2$year degree program can try to improve his9her grades in a ma4imum of 2 3four5 courses 7hile a student of Architecture 7ho goes through a &$year program can do the same in a ma4imum of & 3five5 courses in his student career in the AUST( All 2$year degree programs at the AUST 7ill re>uire completion of all degree re>uirements 7ithin a ma4imum period of E academic years( The &$year ,achelor degree program of Architecture 7ill re>uire completion of all degree re>uirements 7ithin a ma4imum period of ? academic years( <ailure to complete all degree re>uirements 7ithin the given time frame may dis>ualify a student from continuation of his study at the AUST( Aetter grades and the corresponding grade$points 7ill ,e a7arded in accordance 7ith the provision sho7n ,elo7.
