Day of Election: Tuesday, April 15th, 2014 Location of Election: TBD Time of Election: Proceedings will begin at 8:00

PM sharp. Doors will be closed at 8:05 Method of Election: Google Form via GWU NetID Individual Governing Election: Chairman (unless chairman is running, in which case the governing individual will be e-board appointed) Officers Counting Ballots: Ballet is counted by spreadsheets sum function Campaigning Permitted for Election: None it will lead to disqualification if publicized Nominations Accepted for Election: Always it is the only way to be put on the ballot Sole Methods of Advertisement for Election: All advertisement will be done solely by the official IAS Social Media accounts. Sole Method of Garnering Votes for the Election: Through either the absentee ballot or attending the GMM to fill out the Google Form via GWU NetID.

CHANGES TO THE ELCTION PROCESS: This years elections will run slightly differently from previous years. While there will still be an Election GMM where voting will occur through Google Form ballots on computers provided at the GMM, those who cannot attend the GMM can vote via Google Forms sent out by the official IAS email account. Although campaigning is prohibited, The Director of Communications will film 2-minute candidacy speeches for the candidates and share them with the IAS membership to facilitate greater information about platforms, in addition to the Candidacy Statements posted on the IAS website. These films cannot be posted by anyone except the official IAS social media sites.

Elections for the 2014-2015 Executive Board of the International Affairs Society are fast approaching. To be prepared for the momentous transition of power, and to know how to run for a position, comprehension of the rules and regulations laid out below are crucial.

If you or someone you know would like to serve for an Elected Position on the IAS EBoard for 2014-2015 and will be on campus during the elections, please follow the rules

below:

NOMINATIONS
On Sunday, March 30th at 11:59PM, prospective members will be unable to pay dues until after the election. Only those that have paid dues and been placed on the listserv prior to this time will be allowed to nominate, run and/or vote in the election. From Monday, March 31st to Thursday, April 3rd at 5:00pm EDT, any DuesPaying Non-Executive Board member may nominate any other IAS member to serve on the next Executive Board. o o You are not allowed to nominate yourself. If you or the person whom you have nominated is/are not dues-paying members, the nomination will not count and will be void. In order to nominate somebody please send an E-mail to the official account of the International Affairs Society at ias@gwu.edu during the allocated nominations period (Monday, March 31st to Thursday, April 3rd at 5:00 pm EDT stating: o o o o Your name The person whom you wish to nominate Their email address AND whatever position you wish to nominate them for

Please note the nominations will only be accepted during that time period. Nominations that are late/too early will be considered void. IF you have been nominated, you will receive an E-mail from the International Affairs Society email account by 11:59pm on Thursday, April 3rd. Please respond ACCURATELY to the necessary instructions in that E-mail. You will not be informed of who has nominated you. By responding to those instructions you affirm your candidacy for the position you have been nominated for. o If you were nominated for 2 or more positions, you must choose just one and respond back indicating which of them you are interested in. o o You must accept the nomination by April 4th at 5:00pm EDT If you do not wish to run for any position you are nominated for please simply DO NOT RESPOND. You will be automatically discounted.

Accepted nominations will be announced on the listserv for Sunday, April 6th.

CANDIDATES
All candidates who have accepted a nomination should attend the Executive board meeting Sunday, April 6th to have any of their questions answered. Exact time and place of the meeting TBD. On Friday, April 11th, the Director of Communications will film each candidates 2 minute speech to be posted on the GW IAS Social Media sites. The Director of Communications will reach out to every candidate to schedule filming and to make other plans with those abroad. Sunday, April 13th is when videos will be posted and advertised by and only by the official IAS Social Media sites. Procedure and rules for these candidacy videos will be sent to candidates who accept their nominations.

VOTING
Absentee voting opens Monday, April 14th at 9:00am EDT and ends April 15th at 5:00 pm EDT. Early or late votes will not be counted. The election GMM will be held Tuesday, April 15th. Candidates will participate in a short Q&A session, and voting will occur. Dues Paying members should come to the GMM to vote, however may vote via absentee Google Form ballot if unable to come to the GMM. To prevent any worrying: the sole instructions in the E-mail to the nominated candidates will be: o To indicate their intention to run for the position by doing the following by April 13th at 11:59pm: Submitting a 200 Word Candidate Statement (not a single word over it will lead to disqualification, so use word count) Submitting a designated Candidate Form following the assigned word counts. Any forms with answers over the word count will be disqualified. Schedule the recording of their speech via the Director of Communications for online publication.
