WELCOME TO PEACE WITH CHRIST

LUTHERAN CHURCH!

We give thanks to God that you are joining us today!

Many of our guests are seeking a home church where they
can be part of the Fellowship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Peace with Christ is a congregation that is a family not an
“organization”. We are small enough to allow people to
know each other by name, and yet large enough to offer
opportunities for growth and service. What we “specialize”
in is not programs or productions, but simply The Gospel
of Our Lord Jesus. Christ, His Word, and the Cross are
what provide the foundation for faith and ministry. If you
are interested in learning more about Peace With Christ
Lutheran Church, please call the church office at 226-4721.
Pastor Patrick would welcome the opportunity to visit with
you personally.

THE TIME before the service may be used for prayer and preparation.
Read through the worship bulletin and familiarize yourself with the service.
A few moments spent this way will help make the service more meaningful.

A READING FROM THE BOOK OF CONCORD

SMALCALD ARTICLES
ARTICLE I: THE CHIEF ARTICLE
REFORMATION SUNDAY

The first and chief article is this:

Jesus Christ, our God and Lord, died for our sins and was
raised again for our justification (Romans 4:24-25).

He alone is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the
world (John 1:29), and God has laid upon Him the iniquities of
us all (Isaiah 53:6).

All have sinned and are justified freely, without their own
works or merits, by His grace, through the redemption that is
in Christ Jesus, in His blood (Romans 3:23-25).

This is necessary to believe. This cannot be otherwise acquired

or grasped by any work, law, or merit. It is clear and certain
that this faith alone justifies us. As St. Paul says: For we hold
that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
(Romans 3:28) That He might be just and the justifier of the
one who has faith in Jesus. [Romans 3:26]

Nothing of this article can be yielded or surrendered, even

though heaven, earth and everything else falls [Mark 13:31].
For there is no other name under heaven given among men by
which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) And with His stripes we
are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

Upon this article everything that we teach and practice de-

pends, in opposition to the pope, the devil, and the whole
world. We must be certain and not doubt. (paragraphs 1-5)

Prayer and Study

Date: October 25 - October 31

Luther Quote: “God Not Found Outside the Word. Without

all the saints through His Word and, in addition, has given them
external signs of grace.”

Wednesday: Psalm 119:169-176; Daniel 7-9
Thursday: Psalm 120; Daniel 10-12

Saturday: Jonah 2:2-9; Hosea 5-7

Venezuela — October 16-31

The Lutheran Church of Venezuela (ILV) currently has 19 pastors
and 19 congregations—but is hoping to train many more pastors
and plant many more congregations in the years to come.
11

Daily Prayers:

Sunday: For the current president of the ILV, Rev. Adrián Ven-
tura and the new president to be elected in November 2009.

Monday: For the youth of Venezuela—may God work through

their friends, parents, teachers, and neighbors, so that many more
would hear the Gospel and receive eternal life through faith in
Jesus Christ.

Tuesday: For the country of Venezuela to thirst for Christ.

More than 85 percent of Venezuelans live in urban areas, and 60
percent are urban poor living in slums called, “barrios.” High
crime rates and lack of security make life difficult. Traditionally
Roman Catholic Venezuela is among the least churchgoing na-
tions in Latin America, while the occult and New Age teachings
have a spiritual hold on many.

Wednesday: For the rural congregations from which many of

the urban churches are planted—that their pastors would remain
faithful in serving them.

Thursday: For Rev. Rudy and Ramona Blank, who continue to

support theological education in Venezuela through Rudy’s writ-
ing and teaching.

Friday: For Dale and Sandra Saville, who serve as agricultural

outreach missionaries in Monagas, Venezuela. Pray God would
continue to use them to reach Venezuelans with the Gospel and
train Venezuelan leaders to use the farm’s livestock initiatives to
the glory of God.

Saturday: With thanksgiving for the work of Rev. Ted and Re-
becca Krey in Venezuela. The Kreys recently transitioned to
serving in the Dominican Republic, but leave a legacy of having
helped to train many ILV leaders.
