Product Overview
In today's tightening market situation, it is increasingly important for ethylene producers to respond
swiftly to changing market conditions and to operate their facilities in the most cost effective manner
possible. In ethylene plants, selection of feedstocks and operation of the cracking furnaces have the
greatest impact on a plant's profitability. Thus it is important to have the best available tools easily
accessible in order to help find the most advantageous way to operate the cracking furnaces.
To date, the most important tool for ethylene producers is SPYRO
: TECHNIP's proprietary ethylene yield prediction program. The rigorous kinetics yield
model is used for the prediction of the effluent composition at the exit of the radiant coil and the
coke deposition rate along the coil;
TES
: the transfer line exchanger simulator for the cooling of the cracked effluent and
generation of high pressure steam;
FIREBOX
: the radiant box simulator for radiative and convective heat transfer in rectangular
ethylene furnaces;
CONVEC: the convection section simulator, for the heat transferred from the hot flue gas flow
to the cold process flows;
Visual EFPS: a user-friendly interface to create, execute and evaluate Furnace simulation
cases on the PC platform.
Several add-ons to SPYRO
are available:
HGO (Heavy Gas Oil) extension: extends the kinetic scheme to heavy gas oils up to C
42
;
ISO extension: the simulator for laboratory scale coils.
Over the years, production facilities have successfully applied SPYRO
in APC) are
available for on-line application of SPYRO
technology.

On-line SPYRO
in APC)
On-line SPYRO
simulates the steady-state cracking process inside the radiant coil(s) of a steam
pyrolysis furnace in ethylene plants. It is based upon a fundamental kinetic scheme of more than
3000 total reactions, representing a chain reaction mechanism of 128 molecular species and 20
radical species. On-line SPYRO
program.
