BRUCE OLSONS ESTABLISHED CREDIBILITY AMONG THE MOTILONES.

Credibility is the quality that makes people has complete trust and confidence in you.

Bruce Olson did establish some credibility from the motilones he used the witch doctor to administer the antibiotics which was modern medicine through infecting himself with the pus of an infected person to transmit the pink eye which was a current epidemic. He gave the witchdoctor the antibiotic Terramycin therefore which would neither destroy her and her role in the tribe thereby helping the motilones.

Bruce also introduced the idea of agriculture to the Abaratatura and the other chiefs bearing in mind that those were the traditional ways of the motilones and there would be no revolts against the old revolts of the way of the elders that way he gained more credibility since he was not in to destroy the ways of life or their culture but handled it through the relevant authorities.

The motilones social system was based upon the pacts between families and to form a pact with someone one was to agree to share everything food, shelter and family. Part of the ceremony involved on one to exchange arrows. Bruchko also had a pact brother who was Bobby motilon

and a respected one enabled the other motilones to believe in him since bobby had already agreed to be his pact brother.

Despite the ill and harsh treatment that Bruchko experienced from the motilones to the extent of shedding lots of blood and even damaging his liver having to sleep in the middle of nowhere and not even eating food for days, having no one to take care of his wounds and experiencing so many hardships. He still went back to live with the motilones after he was save by Dr. Hans by helicopter for treatment , it made the motilones to trust them him the more.

Bruchko was a traditionalist and would prefer the motilones to live in isolation in their long thatched houses though the tribal families firmly decide investing on cement block houses and raise money for the cause.

Bruchko also learnt the language of the motilones like the words Guaycaba dobucbu which meant you lazy ones with no value showing a lot of interest in knowing the ways of the motilones for there to effective communication.

Bruchko also brought medicine for the motilones after he went for treatment showing that he cared for them. He also used motilones legend to spread the word of God for better understanding of the word for them.

In the long run we find that Bruchko succeeds in introducing Christianity and fitting in the society of the motilines since he simply uses their traditions to incorporate his ideas therefore he simply established credibility.
