Importing the XENTRY StartKey* online, via USB stick, or CD/DVD

There are several options to import (install) StartKeys on XENTRY Kit and Star Diagnosis systems. As with the StartKeys for WIS, the old StartKeys for DAS could only be installed in Star Utilities by entering the so-called StartKey string (a complicated series of letters) in the StartKey Center (previously known as the "License Manager" or "StartKey Manager"). However, the XENTRY StartKey is much longer than the DAS or WIS StartKey. Although you could (and still can) enter the XENTRY StartKey by hand, it is very troublesome and susceptible to errors. This is why there are two other much more comfortable installation options for the XENTRY StartKey: Download online from the central StartKey server Load the StartKey from a USB stick or CD inserted in the diagnosis system (Star Diagnosis or XENTRY Kit). To do this, the orderer must save a specific file containing the StartKey attached to the StartKey email to the USB stick or CD.

In addition, the StartKey Manager was replaced by the StartKey Center tool in 05/2012. Downloading the XENTRY StartKey online

To download the StartKey from the StartKey server, first make sure that the XENTRY System (XENTRY Connect) or the Star Diagnosis system, respectively, has been correctly configured for the network/Internet connection.
Star Diagnosis

To do this, on Star Diagnosis systems please use the available network tools, SDnetControl or SDnetAssist (see the separate operating instructions for these tools). The StartKey can only be downloaded online if all servers and central services are displayed as active.

Call up the StartKey Center after you have checked that the Star Diagnosis system is connected to the Internet and Daimler servers.

XENTRY Kit

On XENTRY Kit please use ConfigAssist or Expert Configuration to determine the proxy preferences. You can access these tools in XENTRY Control via menu item "Configuration". Please conduct the proxy configuration in ConfigAssist or ExpertConfiguration before you open the StartKey Center for the first time.

Star Diagnosis

On the "Overview" page of StartKey Center (both XENTRY Kit and Star Diagnosis), first check whether a XENTRY StartKey has already been installed in the system.

This can also be seen on the "StartKeys" page, i.e. if you see a sequence of letters/numbers in the field below the selection menu (where you set "XENTRY Diagnostics"):

A StartKey is stored in the system if the field (1) is filled. If this is the case, try to memorize the first and last characters, here "YLGG...." and "...-8N". No StartKey is currently installed if the field is empty. In some cases, it is possible that an older or invalid StartKey was automatically deleted by the system. The field would also be empty if this has happened. To download a new StartKey or update the StartKey, click on the "Load StartKey (online)" button at the top right. (2) If you have ordered a new StartKey and it has been generated, the latest and only valid StartKey for this XENTRY Connect or Star Diagnosis system will be found in the central StartKey server and downloaded automatically. Any existing, older, or invalid StartKeys will thus be automatically replaced by the new StartKey. A corresponding message will indicate that the StartKey has been updated. You can also see with the changed letter/number sequence that a new StartKey has been entered. (3) Always close the StartKey online download section by clicking on the "Save" button! (4) We always recommend loading the StartKey online and then comparing the StartKey saved in the Star Diagnosis or XENTRY Connect system with the latest StartKey on the central server, also if you are uncertain if the StartKey you are using afterwards in your XENTRY Connect or Star Diagnosis system is still current. With the online comparison, you can be sure that you are using the latest valid StartKey.

Loading the XENTRY StartKey from a USB stick or CD

As an alternative to downloading online, the XENTRY StartKey can also be loaded to the XENTRY Connect or Star Diagnosis system from a USB stick or CD. This process is recommended if the XENTRY Connect or Star Diagnosis system is not usually operated online and is not configured for an online connection. However, we recommend using the online download option, which involves, if necessary, configuring the XENTRY Connect or Star Diagnosis system for an online connection and connecting to the Internet this one time. Only the StartKey online test ensures that you are using the latest valid StartKey for this XENTRY Connect or Star Diagnosis system!

To import StartKeys via a USB stick or CD, open the StartKey e-mail you received for your order on a second computer. Save the text file attached to the StartKey e-mail directly to a USB stick inserted in the computer or to a directory on the hard drive in order to burn the file to a CD/DVD. You can recognize the file from the name beginning with the hardware ID for the XENTRY Connect or Star Diagnosis system and including the application ID and date on which the StartKey was generated; the file type is ".txt".

If you are using a USB stick, the file must be stored in the top-most directory of the USB stick and the file name may not be changed. Also note that the stick may not be partitioned and that encryption may not be activated on the USB stick.

If you are using a CD instead of a USB stick, you must burn the StartKey file to that CD. While doing so, please make sure that the file is in the top-most directory and that the CD/DVD file format supports long file names (if necessary, refer to the operating instructions for your CD/DVD burning program).

Star Diagnosis

Insert the USB stick in the USB port on the Star Diagnosis system for which the StartKey was ordered. As an 4 alternative, insert the burned CD/ DVD in the systems CD/ DVD drive (using compact connect the provided DVD device to an USB port). To import the StartKey via USB to the XENTRY Connect, the USB stick must be connected to a USB port at the XENTRY Tab/ standard PC. Analog when using a self-burned CD/ DVD, the disc must be inserted into the blue-ray disk device which is connected to the XENTRY Tab/ Standard PC. Please note: Reading the StartKey from a USB stick respectively a DVD it is not possible using XENTRY Kit (in XENTRY Connect), if the medium is connected to the XENTRY Connect.

XENTRY Kit

Open the StartKey Center, after connecting the USB stick respectively inserting the CD/ DVD to the appropriate drive and go to the "StartKeys" view. In the top selection field, select the entry "XENTRY Diagnostics" and click on the "Load StartKey (CD/USB)" button at the top right. The StartKey will now be automatically read from the USB stick or CD/DVD and added to the appropriate field in the StartKey Center.

Any StartKey installed on the system will be automatically overwritten when a StartKey is imported from a USB stick or CD (just as when you download a StartKey online), providing that the imported StartKey has a later version than the current one. Do not forget to save the imported StartKey in the system by clicking on the "Save" button. (3) If importing from a USB stick or CD fails, this will be indicated by an appropriate error message. Please note the reason given in the message and attempt to remedy the cause of the error. Possible causes: The file is not located in the top-most directory of the USB stick/CD. The USB stick was not detected by the system. The format (TXT) or StartKey file name was changed. The StartKey does not match the system (HW ID) or is not current. The USB stick or the disk drive were connected to the XENTRY Connect rather than the XENTRY Tab / Standard PC, with a XENTRY Kit system.

If importing from a USB stick or CD fails again, try downloading the StartKey online.

Manual StartKey entry

This method of entry is not recommended, as it is very susceptible to errors. Nevertheless, each StartKey can be entered in the StartKey Center by hand in the appropriate field in the "StartKeys" page. The StartKey e-mail contains the StartKey string that must be entered.

To do this, select "XENTRY Diagnostics" in the above selection field (or any other application for which you have ordered a start key). Then enter the StartKey in the field. In particular, please observe the following when doing so: Connect an external keyboard and do not use the on-screen keyboard. Upper/lower case is irrelevant. The letter/number string can be entered with or without the separator "-". Enter the character string without breaks or empty spaces. Do not mix up 0 (zero) and O (uppercase o), as well as 1 (one) and l (lowercase L). Check the entire character string once more before saving it.

Do not forget to click on the "Save" button after you have entered the characters. If you exit this screen without saving your entries, you will have to re-enter the entire StartKey! An appropriate error message will be shown if you have entered the StartKey character string incorrectly. Check all numbers and letters again and note the above tips.

Fr das Einspielen (Installieren) von StartKeys auf XENTRY Kit und Star Diagnosis Systemen gibt es grundstzlich mehrere Mglichkeiten. Der frher verwendete StartKey fr DAS konnte, ebenso wie der StartKey fr WIS, nur durch manuelles Eintippen des so genannten StartKey-Strings (also die komplizierte Buchstabenfolge) in das StartKey Center (frher: Lizenzmanager bzw. "StartKey Manager") in den Star Utilities installiert werden. Der XENTRY-StartKey ist jedoch wesentlich lnger als der DAS- bzw. WIS-StartKey. Zwar konnte und kann auch der XENTRY-StartKey manuell eingetippt werden, das ist aber sehr mhsam und fehleranfllig. Aus diesem Grund bestehen fr den XENTRY-StartKey noch zwei weitere Installationsmglichkeiten: Online-Herunterladen vom zentralen StartKey-Server Laden des StartKeys von einem in das Diagnose-System (Star Diagnosis oder XENTRY Kit) eingesteckten USB-Stick oder einer eingelegten CD. Eine bestimmte Datei mit dem StartKey muss dazu vorher aus der StartKey-E-Mail, die dem StartKey-Besteller zugeht, auf den USB-Stick bzw. die CD abgespeichert werden.

Zum Herunterladen des StartKeys vom StartKey-Server stellen Sie zunchst sicher, dass das XENTRY System (XENTRY Connect) bzw. Star Diagnosis System korrekt fr die Netzwerk-/Internetanbindung konfiguriert ist.
Star Diagnosis

Verwenden Sie auf Star Diagnosis Systemen dazu die vorhandenen systemeigenen Netzwerk-Tools, SDnetControl oder SDnetAssist (s. separate Bedienungsanleitung fr diese Tools). Nur wenn dort alle Server und zentralen Dienste als erreichbar angezeigt werden, kann der StartKey auch online eingespielt werden.

Nachdem Sie berprft haben, dass das Star Diagnosis System Verbindung zum Internet und zu den DaimlerServern hat, rufen Sie das StartKey Center auf.

XENTRY Kit

Auf XENTRY Kit verwenden Sie den ConfigAssist oder die Expertenkonfiguration zur Festlegung der ProxyEinstellungen. Sie ffnen diese Tools in XENTRY Control ber den Menpunkt "Konfiguration". Bitte fhren Sie die Proxy-Konfiguration ber ConfigAssist oder die Expertenkonfiguration aus, bevor Sie das StartKey Center erstmalig starten.

Kontrollieren Sie auf der Seite bersicht des StartKey Centers (sowohl bei XENTRY Kit als auch Star Diagnosis) zunchst, ob ggf. bereits ein StartKey fr XENTRY auf dem System installiert ist.

Alternativ ist dies auch auf der Seite StartKeys ersichtlich nmlich dann, wenn dort im Feld unterhalb des Auswahlmens (in dem Sie XENTRY Diagnostics einstellen) eine Buchstaben-/Zahlenfolge sichtbar ist:

Ist das Feld (1) gefllt, ist auf dem System ein StartKey gespeichert. Versuchen Sie sich in diesem Fall z.B. die ersten und letzten Zeichen, hier YLGG.... und ...-8N, kurz zu merken. Ist das Feld leer, haben Sie aktuell keinen StartKey installiert. Unter Umstnden kann ein lterer oder ungltiger StartKey auch automatisch vom System gelscht worden sein. Auch in diesem Fall finden Sie dann an dieser Stelle ein leeres Feld vor. Klicken Sie zum Herunterladen eines neuen StartKeys oder auch zum Aktualisieren auf d en Button StartKey laden (online) oben rechts. (2) Sofern Sie einen neuen StartKey bestellt haben und dieser erfolgreich erstellt wurde, wird dieser aktuellste (und damit einzig gltige) StartKey fr diesen XENTRY Connect bzw. dieses Star Diagnosis System auf dem zentralen StartKey-Server ermittelt und automatisch heruntergeladen. Ein eventuell bereits vorhandener, lterer oder ggf. auch ungltiger StartKey wird dabei automatisch durch den neuen StartKey ersetzt. Dass der StartKey aktualisiert wurde, wird durch eine entsprechende Meldung angezeigt. Auerdem knnen Sie anhand der genderten Buchstaben-/Zahlenfolge erkennen, dass ein neuer StartKey eingetragen wurde. (3) Schlieen Sie den Online-Download des StartKeys unbedingt mit einem Klick auf den Speichern-Knopf ab! (4) Es ist immer ratsam, den StartKey online zu laden und damit den auf dem Star Diagnosis System oder XENTRY Connect abgespeicherten StartKey mit dem aktuellsten StartKey auf dem zentralen Server abzugleichen auch falls Sie in der weiteren Zeit, in der Sie den XENTRY Connect oder das Star Diagnosis System verwenden, unsicher sind, ob der StartKey noch aktuell ist. Mit dem Online-Abgleich knnen Sie sicher sein, dass Sie mit dem aktuellsten und gltigen StartKey arbeiten.

Alternativ zum Online-Herunterladen kann der XENTRY StartKey auch ber einen USB-Stick oder eine CD auf den XENTRY Connect oder das Star Diagnosis System geladen werden. Dieses Vorgehen empfiehlt sich vor allem dann, wenn der XENTRY Connect bzw. das Star Diagnosis System grundstzlich nicht online betrieben wird und nicht fr eine Online-Anbindung konfiguriert ist.

Es wird jedoch empfohlen, die Variante des Online-Herunterladens zur verwenden und ggf. dafr den XENTRY Connect bzw. das Star Diagnosis System fr die Online-Anbindung zu konfigurieren und unter Umstnden einmalig in das Netz einzubinden. Nur die Online-berprfung des StartKey garantiert, dass der neuste und gltige StartKey fr den XENTRY Connect bzw. das Star Diagnosis System verwendet wird! Zum Einspielen des StartKeys ber USB-Stick oder CD ffnen Sie zunchst die StartKey-E-Mail, die Sie nach der Bestellung des erhalten haben, auf einem separaten Computer. Speichern Sie die Text-Datei im Anhang der StartKey-E-Mail direkt auf einen in den Computer eingesteckten USB-Stick oder auf ein Verzeichnis auf Ihrer Festplatte, um die Datei auf CD/DVD brennen zu knnen. Sie erkennen die Datei am Namen, der mit der Hardware-ID des XENTRY Connects oder Star Diagnosis Systems beginnt und die Applikations-ID sowie das Datum enthlt, an dem der StartKey ausgestellt wurde; der Datei-Typ ist txt. Falls Sie einen USB-Stick verwenden wollen, muss die Datei auf dem USB-Stick im obersten Verzeichnis mit unverndertem Dateinamen abgelegt werden. Beachten Sie bitte zustzlich, dass der Stick nicht partitioniert sein darf und dass keine Verschlsselung des USB-Sticks aktiviert sein darf.

Falls Sie statt des USB-Sticks eine CD verwenden wollen, mssen Sie die StartKey-Datei auf eine CD brennen. Achten Sie dabei bitte darauf, dass die Datei auch dort in der obersten Verzeichnisebene liegt und das CD/DVDDateiformat lange Dateinamen untersttzt (ziehen Sie ggf. die Benutzeranleitung Ihres CD/DVD-Brennprogramms zu Rate).
Star Diagnosis

Stecken Sie den USB-Stick in einen USB-Port des Star Diagnosis Systems, fr das der StartKey bestellt wurde. 4 Alternativ legen Sie die gebrannte CD/DVD in das CD/DVD-Laufwerk des Systems ein (beim compact schlieen Sie hierzu das mitgelieferte DVD-Laufwerk an einen USB-Port an). Um den StartKey per USB auf den XENTRY Connect zu bertragen, muss der USB-Stick an einem USB-Port am XENTRY Tab / Standard PC angesteckt werden! Analog muss bei Verwendung einer selbstgebrannten CD/DVD die Disk in das Blu-ray Disk Laufwerk eingelegt werden, das an den XENTRY Tab / Standard PC angesteckt wird. Beachten Sie: Das Einlesen des StartKeys von USB-Stick bzw. DVD ist bei XENTRY Kit (in XENTRY Connect) nicht mglich, wenn das Medium am XENTRY Connect verwendet wird!

XENTRY Kit

ffnen Sie nach Anschluss des USB-Sticks bzw. nach dem Einlegen der CD/DVD am entsprechenden Endgert das StartKey Center und gehen Sie dort zur Ansicht StartKeys. Whlen Sie im oberen Auswahlfeld den Eintrag XENTRY Diagnostics und bettigen Sie den Button StartKey laden (CD/USB) oben rechts. Der StartKey wird nun automatisch von dem USB-Stick bzw. der CD/DVD gelesen und in das entsprechende Feld im StartKey Center eingetragen.

Ein eventuell bereits auf dem System installierter StartKey wird beim Import von USB-Stick oder CD (wie auch beim Online-Herunterladen) automatisch berschrieben, sofern der importierte StartKey aktueller ist als der bereits vorhandene. Vergessen Sie auch hier nicht, den importierten StartKey mit Klick auf Speichern auf dem System abzuspeichern. (3) Sollte der Import von USB-Stick oder CD fehlschlagen, wird dies durch eine entsprechende Fehlermeldung signalisiert. Beachten Sie bitte die in diesem Fall angezeigten Hinweise in der Meldung und versuchen Sie, die Fehlerursache zu beheben. Mgliche Ursachen: Die Datei liegt nicht in der obersten Verzeichnisebene des USB-Sticks/ der CD. Der USB-Stick wurde vom System gar nicht erkannt. Das Format (TXT) oder der Dateiname der StartKey-Datei wurde verndert. Der StartKey passt nicht zum System (HW-ID) oder ist nicht aktuell. Der USB Stick oder das Laufwerk wurden bei XENTRY Kit am XENTRY Connect und nicht am XENTRY Tab / Standard-PC angeschlossen.

Versuchen Sie bei weiterhin fehlschlagendem Import von USB-Stick oder CD das Online-Herunterladen des StartKeys.

Manuelle StartKey-Eingabe
Diese Eingabemethode wird nicht empfohlen, da sie sehr fehleranfllig ist. Jeder StartKey kann aber grundstzlich auch von Hand im StartKey Center in das Feld auf der Seite StartKeys eingetragen werden. Den einzugebenden StartKey-String knnen Sie aus der StartKey-E-Mail lesen:

Whlen Sie dazu im Auswahlfeld oberhalb zunchst XENTRY Diagnostics (oder eine andere Anwendung, fr die Sie einen StartKey bestellt haben) aus. Tippen Sie dann den StartKey in das Feld ein. Beachten Sie dabei insbesondere: Verwenden Sie nicht die On-Screen-Tastatur, sondern verbinden Sie ein externes Keyboard. Die Gro- bzw. Kleinschreibung der Buchstaben ist irrelevant. Die Buchstaben-/Zahlenkette kann mit den oder ohne die Trennzeichen - eingegeben werden. Geben Sie die Zeichenkette ohne Umbrche oder Leerzeichen ein. Verwechseln Sie nicht 0 (Null) und O (groer Buchstabe o) sowie 1 (Eins) und l (kleiner Buchstabe L). Kontrollieren Sie die gesamte Zeichenkette vor dem Abspeichern noch einmal genau.

Vergessen Sie nicht, nach Eingabe der Zeichen den Speichern-Button zu bettigen. Wenn Sie die Maske verlassen ohne zu speichern, mssen Sie den StartKey erneut komplett eingeben! Falls Sie die StartKey-Zeichenkette falsch eingegeben haben, wird eine entsprechende Fehlermeldung angezeigt. Kontrollieren Sie noch einmal alle Zahlen und Buchstaben und beachten Sie die oben genannten Hinweise.
