Induced overvoltage withstand test and partial discharge measurement

Transformer has to withstand the temporary overvoltage which may be subjected during ist lifetime - Test of insulation between the phase windings, turns, coils, tapping leads and terminals - Partial discharge is measured in order to recognise whether the transformer has any weak points in the insulation - Successful, if no collapse of the test voltage occurs and the windings are free of partial discharges - HV windings for transformers > 8 MVA and / or more than 24 kV are tested before assembly of the transformer
