This standard lays down an overview of screw threads
used either for general purposes or in special
appl ications. Threads complying with standards being
given in Table I and those complying with International
Standards in Table 2. In Table 3 types of screw threads
covered in National Standards of UK. USA and
Germany are given.
The standards given below contain provi sions, which
through reference in th is text, const itute provisions of
this standard. At the time of publication. the editions
indicated were valid. All standards are subject to
revision and parties to agreements based on this

The thread designation is generally to comprise the
symbol denoting the type of thread and the value of
the nominal diameter on nominal size. followed where
required by the value of the pitch or number of threads,
tolerance, number of start. taper and whether the thread
is a left-hand thread. In the case of a number of screw
threads conforming to this standard, the designation is
preceded by the number.
It should be noted that when using Tables 1,2 and 3 only
the latest edition of each standard referred to shall apply.
