PREWORD
We express our great appreciation to our customer; we thank you for
purchasing hook block manufactured by RG Petro-Machinery CO., LTD.
The hook block is important part of hoist system in drilling rigs and
workover rigs. In order to ensure your operation and maintenance of the
drilling rig according to the correct methods, please abide by strictly all
requirements of the operation manual and operation and maintenance
procedures periodically. Please stop operation for inspection if it runs
abnormally. Operation with troubles will be forbidden. Correct operation
procedure should help obtain maximum performance and working life of the
drilling Rig.
The operation manual contains structure, principle, specification,
operation and maintenance, common troubleshooting, and lubrication
information for hook block. It can help some equipment managerial
personnel, operator and maintainer.
The instruction manual doesnt have every detail thought of hook block.
We will appreciate any kind advice from you, please contact with our
technical department if you have some technical issues, we will give your
reply on time or sent technician to your place for on-site services.

. Main technical specification
1.1 the function of the hook block
The traveling block and hook are important hoisting equipment that are
used to trip the drill rod, oil pipe, pumping rod and some kinds of drill tools in
the drilling and workover rigs, their main functions are as follows:
1. Hanging the swivel and drill tools when drilling;
2. Hanging the elevator bail and elevator to trip the drill tools on the
round-trip operation
3. Finishing the other drilling and auxiliary job.
1.2 The Trait :
The traveling block and hook are designed and manufactured in the light
of SY/SY5208-91 and API Spec 8A
The hook block is designed to integrate the traveling block with hook, its
superiority is: small whole size, compact structure, shortening the
combination length of the traveling block and hook in order to make full use
of the derrick height, operating easily, matching the truck-mounted drilling rig
well.

!. The pri nci pl e of work and structure
The hook block is either the main equipment of the traveling system of the drilling rig
and workover rig, or a vinculum connecting spinning system swivel. The hook block is
integrated the traveling block with hook, and its superiority is shortening the axial size.
The face of traveling block is a
whole structure, and fixed pulley
protecting caps. Its pulley groove
structure is designed and made
according to API Spec 8A. The
rolling bearing is fixed between the
pulley inner hole and pulley shaft,
all pulley bearing all lubricated
alone. There is rope baffle device
inside the traveling block to keep the
wireline from jumping and pull
wireline easily.
The hook mainly consists of the
body, cant hook, cartridge, host
bearing and spring, etc. The spring is
fixed in the cartridge as a buffer in
order to move the disjointed fourble from the pipe string, it speeds the round-trip course
and prolongs the lives of the all parts
The brake device is mounted on the cartridge to realize the hook body of rotating 360#
freely and lock any position of eight directions. The main hook lip fixes safety latch
mechanism, is operated neatly. The accessory hooks lie on the two sides and are fixed the
crescent lock arms to keep the hang bails from moving. So it confirms that the lifting bail

and bail of the swivel wont leave when impact and shake.
". The use and operati on regul ati on
When transporting the hook block, the hook cartridge neednt filling with lubricant oil,
before use, it should be injected proper lubricant oil to lubricate the host bearing well.
3.1 Before using the hook block, have an examination as follows :
1. The lubrication of pulley bearing and host bearing.
2. Rotating all pulleys by hand, checking if they are agile.
3. Wrenching the hook body, checking its rotating agility and locating reliability
4. Checking if the bolts and core pins are slack; if the bearing surface is crack or
damaged seriously. After careful examination and confirmation, it can be used.
3.2 The check in work:
1. Checking every pulley bearing, when the temperature exceeds 70$, it should be
stopped and checked.
2. Observing often whether the working surfaces of the hook are crack or damaged, if
that, must stop using at once, or it will hurt workers or damage the equipment.
3. Before round-trip, should check the tightness of lock arm fitting fastening of the side
hook lips; before rotating work, should check the tightness of the host hook lip safety
lock arm; when resolving the complex accidents under the well, after hanging the
swivel, binding the lock arm with wireline to keep the lifting bail from leaving.
4. In work, should observe the working condition of the hook block, if the abnormal
voice sounds, should stop at once and check and repair it.

3.3 Crossing rope and attention
Place the hook block well, neednt open the side caps of the traveling block, pack the
wireline end with slim wire directly, cross the every pulley.

#. Repai r and mai ntenance
4.1 Lubrication
1.The lubrication spots
1) The grease fitting on pulley shaft edge of the traveling block
Attentionwhen hoisting , should keep stably to prevent the spring from
cracking. When the spring trip is less, it should be sent to repair.

2) The grease fitting on the brake of the cartridge side.
3) The host bearing and spring in the cartridge.
4) The grease fitting on bearing pin edge of the hook body.
5) The contact surface between the hook body and bails or lifting bails, every pulley
groove surface.
2. The lubrication periods
1) Use the grease once every 150 hours at the rolling bearings and the hook body
bearing pins.
2) Use the lube oil or grease once every 150 hours at the brake and the host bearing in
the cartridge.
3) Use the grease once every 8 hours on the pulley grooves and all working contact
surfaces.
4. The grease or lube oil
The grease : ZL-3H lithium base grease ( SY1413-80).
The lube oil : L-CKD heavy-duty industrial gear oil ( ISO 220)
4.2 The hackneyed malfunction and solutions

$ Packi ng and transportati on
1. The hook block should be reserved in dry, airiness, corrosion-proof store, without
sunshine and rain.
2. When not use for long time, the hook block be placed on the bracket, all metal
naked surfaces and the pulley groove should be smeared grease to avoid rusting, all the oil
cup should be filled with grease.
3. Normally, the hook block may be shipped nakedly.
