Assignment 2 Vlad Alexandru Facultatea de Teatru i TV CFM-RO An III Part one of the assignment:

(Green Line Painting, 1968, Ronnie Landfield)

Ronnie Landfield, manages to impress the consumers of contemporany art by the simplicity of his abstract and minimalistic works of art. The paniting attached above represents one of his many successful compositions, which adds an emotional pulse to the visual language worldwide. The composition made of oblique and horizontal lines dares to expire a dynamic visual tension, sustained by the alternative compensation of lines with other lines that come to stabilize the overall composition. The mastery he displays not only assures a network of lines, which induces a certain emotional state, but also focuses on the visual dynamics, taking rise from the mainstream conduct which we

apply when we read the visual language, letting the lines guide us from one side of the picture, to the other. It is clear that the transmitted emotion is also realised by the colors used to support the viable tensions suggested by the painter of this composition. The contrast between the angles formed by the intersection of lines and the number of lines of the same color, is intereseting to notice. In most of the fore fronts, lines tend to converge at the end forming a starting point in the composition. We can also notice that the thickness of the lines tends to repeat in order to create points of resistance and to balance more lines of a smaller thickness. Horizontal lines come across the force lines, which are invisible in the image, (the horizon), for drawing an area of balance or superior limit. The composition concentrates on the center of the image, with small deviations in the upper sides, inspiring an image of surreal, abstract. The desire to self-improve the conditon of a simple painting is supported by the concept of minimalist art. It is almost impossible to think of an image without making reference to a series of symbols which define it, angles being realised in order to outline the idea of triangles, which, in a visual composition, represents the perfection of a simple, compositionally balanced form. In conclusion, abstract, minilatistic art returnes to the primordial principles from which the nature itself is defined. It is utterly interesting to study this concept, in order to create an overall image regarding the future of the contemporany art.

Part 2 of my assignment:

( Balet - Alexandru Vlad, Fac. De Teatru i TV )

The photograph I took was chosen to illustrate the force of lines in a visual composition. The concept I followed was that of creating the atmosphere of a freeze frame from the training of a ballet dancer. Taking into consideration the complexity of visual language and body lines in the art of ballet, the usage of this visual technique seemed to me elementary. Therefore, we have all the types of regular lines; most of them materialize under the form of vertical and oblique upward lines. These suggest the idea of hope, aspiration to perfection. Vertical lines balance the composition offering a sense of stability in the bottom of the image. The raised leg, representing a vertical line, unites with the line of the body generating a moderate tension, which is stabilized by the upper oblique line. The reflection of the grab bars in a horizontal direction have the role of creating balance.

To conclude, I would like to outline what I considered to be important in my composition: the concept of dynamic, suggesting the notion of movement, but at the same time, of stillness, was the first idea which laid at the base of the staging, as well as the essence of the universe in which we live in, from the smallest rank to the imaginary area.
