Pursuing Inclusive Growth

KGVK
A Social Enterprise for Inclusive Growth
Understanding KGVK... KGVK is a four-decade old development organization in the East of India; it has an integrated approach to rural development through the proprietary Total Village Management (TVM) model; TVM is based on strong business principles adapted to the rural setting, community ownership and grassroots entrepreneurship; eventual goals being meeting and surpassing the Eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) over many years. KGVK operates in 6 districts of Jharkhand, a largely tribal and one of the least developed States in India, has a PublicPrivate-PEOPLE-Partnership (4P) to mobilizing resources, and has over 175 full-time employees that form the KGVK family; KGVKs social enterprises have an operational reach across many States of India. The $1 billion Usha Martin Group is the corporate anchor of KGVK, while other knowledge and funding partners include Village Communities/local governance structures, Government of Jharkhand, Government of India, USAID, Oxfam, SRTT, IFC, JHPIEGO, to name a few. TVM provides KGVK a sustained engagement model at the community-level driven purely by the needs of the community with no time-bound mandate, along with mutually agreed requirements of our Partner organizations; KGVK also works with established social enterprises and strategic social investors in strengthening the TVM delivery model and reach across its many pillars. The Total Village Management model... KGVK has expanded TVMs ambit by positioning it as a global model for poverty alleviation along with partners Ashoka-Innovators for the Public. KGVK has set a goal of $10 million to be committed, over a 10 year period covering at least 350 villages at The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Summit in October 2008. Since 2008 KGVK India has mobilised $3 million through public & private donors and through community involvement while the Usha Martin Group has contributed $2 million. 5 villages were selected from within the command areas in 2009 to test the model; an additional 16 villages added in 2010; end of 2011 will see another 100 villages added, and the rest of the 350 to be added in 2012. KGVK also started its UK-based arm (www.bridgesbeyondboundaries.co.uk) in late 2010 to engage a broadbased audience of corporate partners, knowledge organizations, and others onto the TVM engagement model.

Make TVM the Dharam of KGVK; Without TVM, we do not exist B K Jhawar, Founder KGVK & Usha Martin Group

With a recent restructuring around TVM, KGVK has positioned itself to face the full scale of implementation for the coming years - a flat organization structure, evolution of SROI metrics, social audit standards, increased transparency with partners, open source platform for engagement with multiple partners, stronger processes to identify community champions, focused community engagement model, financial sustainability standards, competency pooling, strategic partnerships, etc. This process has also opened up many exciting and new opportunities that require passionate and talented people to help us achieve these goals. Please see below an immediate opening to join the KGVK family; more positions to follow in the coming weeks.
