V^- .>'#2!

Greetings from Africa in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I arrived safely on African soil on January 19th. It was great to finally get here and to see Shanda Delaney's familiar face. My trip was good and exciting as I learned to exchange US dollars for gulden in Holland, then to the South Africsui rand, then to the Zimbabwean dollar. What an experience to figure what to tip and if things were too expensive etc. etc. in all these foreign currencies,

We (Shanda and l) left Jo'buig on Monday the 20th in my "new** car.

car. We met Marcia Kay Thomson (my new flatmate) and Cecil Ross, (another single missionary) several hours north of Jo'burg. We did some shopping as more items
are available in SA than here in Zimbabwe.

of things that they needed to get for others we continued on to the border. Oh, what an experience... you have to let them icnow everything you have in your
possession. As a first time resident I do not have to pay duty or customs on

any of these items but I do have to declare it all.

We were finished in 1|- hours

>diich from what I understand is good timej.Smile*! Then on to my first night's stay in Zimbabwe. We stayed at the Lion and Sleuhant Innthatched roofs, birds, dogs, cats, but no lions or elephants*! It wis a wonderful night*s sleep. We headed to Harare on Wednesday, the 22nd. Along the way I saw ny first mud huts and they seemed as if I'd seen them before. I guess my slide presentation
helped me feel as if I*d been here before too! Smile!

We also saw a huge troop of baboons cross the road in front of us, as well as many monkeys and a lot of cows! Yep, cows!! We also stopped several times for a "coke" break. You can get the "Real Thing" in even the remotest of places!*

We reached Harare early afternoon and came to the College,

Thank you all for

the many cards and letters that were waiting for me here. It was great to get mail my first day here. (l love to get raaill) I'm settled in somewhat now but only partially until the two crates arrive. It has all the things I could not get in a suitcaseHa! Ha! (One wels on!ly 4-' x x 8' and the other was 4' X X 2*6". And I would need a BIG suitcase for all of thatright!)
Life here is at a much slower pace than in the US, But, in Harare, we can go to an occasional movie and dinner out as well as shopping of all kinds down town. It is culture shock to have to stop for tea time in the morning and

afternoon, but one custom I'm quickly getting use to!! Harare is so beautiful. The gardei^ and flowers always so neat and colorful. There is not any trash along the roads for they use everything over and over!! Driving has definitely ....
been a cultiire shockbut the other day I realized that it seemed comfortable

to be on the left-side instead of the right-side of the road!!

I have never been greeted so enthusiastically by people.

(Am I adjusting?)

The students, all 10

of them plus the 2 kitchen workers, all greeted me with hearty handshakes and

BIG smiles. They are so excited to learn about me and about life in the US. They also express a love for me because I have come to help themi! I've
learned several Shona wortteenough to get a few laughs and smiles from the students here at the College. They desire so much to learn about the Lord so they can return to their homes to teach others. And all .are serioios
about their education.

My job here consists of many things from secretary, to grocer shopper, to

immigration/customs errancfe to whatever else needs to be done.

On June 22, we experienced an exciting time. We had our "Miracle Sunday". We had a goal of $-3000.00 to be giuen that day, to help

The holidays are fast approaching and these will be another first time

for Jayne Linda,

If you haven't already done so,

take time today to write a

special letter of encougement to Jayne Linda.

On Saturday, November 13 we talked to her because she needed to tell us about her car. As you may remember, she purchased a used VW Jetta when she arrived last

January in South Africa. It now needs to have the carburetor rebuilt, but since parts are not readily available in Zimbabwe, this means a trip to South Africa, which will taJce at least two days. Please pray for her travel, that she has no
more car problems on the way to and ftom South Africa,

This newsletter is sent to over 250 addresses, and we pray that the words from Jayne Linda will lift your spirits as they have for us, her forwarding agents.
We suggest you include Galatians 6 in your Bible studies. Since several have asked vrtiat Jayne Linda actually does in Harare, here is a list taken from a
recent letter,

This includes going to immigrations, customs, import control, stay in touch with all our missionaries in Zimbabwe, buy food for the 23 plus people we feed three by radio with our two mission hospitals and do any errands that the mission
hospitals need." We believe that is for one week.

"I do everything but teach...I am the secretary for the Zimbabwe Christian

If your church is not currently helping with a missionary, why not ask them to support Jayne Linda, Or maybe a special love offering could be taken near
Christmas for her. Your church will be blessed and the Lord's work will be
strengthened in Zimbabwe,

Reserve for return travel to US $100, This leaves about $if30 each month for

Dear King''s Way Family, Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This letter has been long in coming to many of you an'd. I apologise for the
delay. The work here in Harare, Zimbabwe, is rewarding and at times frustating, but the He sustains-me continually. The rewards have been the more than 30 people that have come to the Lord and have.;been obedient in baptism because of a 6 night evange 1 i s.t i c -efrf or t. Also, th>e.young people have started to take deep and sincere looks at their own lives and being obedient in baptism also. This has been an exciting two months. We have _se-ejj aboLL_t__45-bap t-i sed at the two churches, Har a.r-e..-Chr i slJ,an Church and Greencroft Christian Church, here in Harare. Another reward is to see the multiracial people pull together and truly work "as unto^ the-Lord." The shepherding programs, the building funds, the discipleship and the prayer groups are all going well.
The frustrations seem to be where Satan tries his hardest to

hit...the little things. Such as lack of car parts, lact of soap powder for laundry and the slow pace in which most everyth1ng is done. But when I stop and place those-thingsn~perspectivethe horde's grace, blessings and promises out number the "little
frustrations" of life here.

the

things we can keep i t -from being. I think o-f -families being together and "extended" families celebrating His precious
love. I think o-f how excited the students at Zimbabwe

Christian College became with just a simple few pieces o-f candy, and an American ball point pen, and a few homebaked goodies each. What an enjoyable sight i t was to see them begin to dance and thank God for the blessings He has given them through this small "gift" and how they appreciated i t .
This was more than most of them have ever received at

Christmas. How precious they are to me. I would like to tell you about Lester Moungo this newsletter. He is a second year student, 39 years old and truly as inspiration to me. He is an encourager and an uplifter. He has a wife and l i t t l e girl. (All of our married men must leave their families at their homeplace due
to the lack of facilities. We have 6 out of 23 students that

are married.) At times this is hard for him to be away from his family due to illness and help with the farming. This is something these men must consider before coming to Zimbabwe Christian College. Lester is fully committed to the work of the Lord. He helps with many churches in the area west/northwest of Harare. He serves these churches faithfully on the weekends and always returns to help with the baptized believers
discipleship. He realizes the need to train leaders for the

church but knows i t is a slow and sometimes painful process. Lester is truly a leader and a loving servant of the Lord.

Please keep him in your prayers as he studies and grows.

We have closed out the second term o-f our school year and looking -forward to some rest and change o-f pace. As we get the building cleaned and scrubbed, keep our vegetable garden going between the rain and get the things done that have been put o-f-f we do need strength and rest. Some o-f the recent events that have happened (or will have happened by the time you receive this) are the celebration o-f Thanksgiving with my mission -family. As 30 o-f
us gathered around the table we thanked the Lord -for His

watch-care over us all, -for His continued blessing o-f those who support us (you) , and -for our -families in the USA -from whom we are separated during these holiday seasons. I will spend Christmas with the Delaney's and Jill Shaw at Greencro-ft. We will be excitingly -finalizing the plans for Shanda's wedding on January 3, 1987. This will be a happy time as Mark Oakley (from Zimbabwe) and Shanda are
married and continue to work with the church at Greencroft

here in Harare. Please pray for them also as they start their new life together. Thank you each one for the cards, letters and gifts you have sent. It is truly an encouragement and lots of fun,
too.
