    Objective: Automaticallydetectandcreate3DFeaturesforuseindownstream applications,likeCAD. Approximately10minutes. 3DFeatures.wrp.

    TimeRequired: File:

    Open3DFeatures.wrp.

    Thisisapartialscanofadie. TheDetect3DFeaturescommandwill analyzethecurvatureofthemodeland segmentitintoregions.Thenitwill extractprimitivefeaturesfromthose regions. Inthisexample,wewillonlyextractthe cylinders,whichcouldbeusedtocreate parametricholesinCADafterexport. Ratherthantryingtopreservethese holesinthemesh,itiswiserandmore flexibletooutputthecylindersand createtheholesinCAD.

    NavigatetotheFeaturestaband clickonDetect3DFeatures. ChangetheCurvature Sensitivityto65.0,andclick ComputeRegions UnderDetect,uncheckPlane, Cone,andSphere,leavingonly Cylinderchecked ClickExtract;fourcylinder featuresarecreated ClickOKtoexit.

    ClickonCylinder>BestFit. Use the paintbrush tool to


    select part of the data on the inside of one of the holes that was not automatically extracted; Inthepreviousstep,onlyabouthalfof theholeswerefoundautomatically.This isbecausesomeholeshaveaslight taperduetodraft,andthereforewere calculatedtobeconical. Sincewewantthemtobetruecylinders, wewillneedtomanuallyidentifythemas
    cylinders.

    ClickApplytocreatethe cylinderfeature. ClickNexttomoveonand createanothercylinder feature. Repeatforallofthecylinders. ClickOKtoexit.

    RightclicktheFeaturesfolderinthe ModelManagerandselectExport AllandsaveasIGES.

    ByexportingasIGES,thesecylinderscan beimportedintoCADandusedto subtract,intersectorunitewithother solids,createholes,etc.

    Alternatively,ifthereisaCAD packageinstalledonthesame computer,youcanclickon ParametricExchange. ClickonCTRL+Atoselectallofthe cylinderfeatures,selectthe appropriateCADpackagefromthe dropdownlist,andclickSend.

    ParametricExchangeallowsforlive transferparametricfeaturestooneof thefivemajorCADpackages.
