Course Description
Part 1: Prevention of workplace violence

Friday, May 16, 2014 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Program begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Part 1 will include definitions of the types of workplace violence along with potential causes and warning signs. Also, there will be some discussion on the importance of workplace violence policies to prevent workplace violence incidents. Part 2: Responding to workplace violence. Part 2 will cover how to react when prevention efforts have failed and you are involved in a workplace violence incident. We will address workplace violence incidents ranging from a irate customer or client to an Active Shooter Incident in a large building. The tactics we discuss will be geared towards allowing you to disengage from the situation safely and survive until law enforcement can arrive to address the situation. The presenter will also describe what to expect from law enforcement during a response to a workplace violence incident. Finally the presenter will address issues that may occur when out in the community. This training benefits all staff.

Presenter:
Sergeant Jeremy Romo, served in the St. Louis County Police Department for 15 years. He is currently the Crisis Intervention Team Coordinator. Prior to this position he was a patrol officer in North St. Louis County for 5 years, a member of the St. Louis County Tactical Operations Unit for 7 years, and a Precinct Supervisor for two years. He has a bachelors Degree from Western Illinois University and a Masters Degree from University of Missouri St. Louis both in Criminal Justice. He has been an adjunct criminal justice instructor at Sanford Brown College for 3 years. Sergeant Romo also has been an anti-violence educator for approximately 13 years working for the Alternatives to Violence and Abuse Batterers Intervention Program and speaking to various groups of adults and youth about domestic and teen dating violence.
