Portfolio 6:
Comparative Video


For this sixth Portfolio, you and a partner are going to make a video where you and a
partner talk about something. You will have to do a lot of preparation for your talk, because
you are going to give a detailed comparison of two things. This Portfolio will focus on
comparatives with adjectives and adverbs.

Compare :
1. You and a partner are going to prepare a recorded discussion about the quality of
AUI. You will talk about what you like and dont like, but you also will use the results
of the student satisfaction survey to help make comparisons.

Guidelines:
GRAMMAR POINT: Correctly use adverbs, adjectives and comparatives (see below).
LENGTH: 3:00-7:00 minutes long
PRESENTATION: Upload to youtube, send link to Mr. Jordan via email with both

Adjectives and Adverbs. Before you record, you need to find good specific adjectives and
adverbs to use. Using a dictionary or thesaurus, find and write down some new vocabulary.

Comparative Forms. You need to use all of these forms correctly at least once (if you want
an A, youll have to use them more than once correctly.) Brainstorm what youll say.

Example script. This shows how the dialogue should look. It should be informative yet
causal. Try to make it sound like two informed people talking.
Student 1: Obviously, for students, the restaurant is more

important than the library.


Student 2: Yes, of course. Students study better when they have

good food in them. But, unfortunately, students find the library


the least satisfying part of campus.
Student 1: I know. On the other hand, students are very happy with

the international programs. It scored higher than the library,


security, and student activities.
Student 2: I know someone who studied in the USA with an

exchange program, and they loved it. Because the university,


students, and friends they made were so nice, they worked
harder and had a better time than they could have imagined.
It was difficult to come back.
