Poppy Flower Headband: easy free crochet pattern for the flower and instruction for the headband. This is the crochet tread pattern. You will need: Crochet tread: size 3 (I recommend Aunt Lydia's Fashion Crochet Tread) Crochet hook: size D-3 or E-4 (2.75-3.25mm). Elastic band: Approximately 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) wide.
Abbreviations and stitches used for Poppy Flower Headband crochet pattern: CH - chain, SC - single crochet stitch, DC - double crochet stitch, slip stitch. Crochet gauge: 16 DC and 21 rows = 4" (10.2cm)
The center: CH 3, join in a ring with a slip stitch. SC 6 in the ring, slip stitch. The petal: Change yarn color, CH 3, 4 DC in the same one stitch, CH 3, slip stitch in the next stitch of the center of the flower.
The poppy crochet flower is ready! make as many flowers as you need for your crochet headband (I made 3 flowers).
This pattern is easy and would be suitable for any crochet ability, it is worked in the round. I use abbreviations according to UK crochet language. The finished poppy is approximately 6cm (2.5") in diameter. This poppy could be used as a brooch or hairpiece, to embellish a bag or simply as a floral decoration. Tools needed: 3.5mm (US size E) crochet hook scissors yarn needle. Abbreviations: ch = chain dc = double crochet htr = half treble crochet tr = treble dtr = double treble crochet sl st = slip stitch sts = stitches R = round [...] = repeat instructions in square brackets
California Poppy
Make a slipknot with the yellow yarn and ch 2.
[1 dc & 1 htr in next st, 3 tr in next, 1 htr & 1 dc in next] x 4, sl st to first dc. Cut yarn.
R5- attach yarn to any back loop of previous round. [2 dc, 2 dc in next st] x 4, sl st to beginning of round. (16 sts)
R6- 3 ch (makes first tr), 1 tr & 1 dtr in same space as ch, 3 dtr in next st, 3 dtr in next, 1 dtr & 2 tr in next, [2 tr & 1 dtr in next st, 3 dtr in next, 3 dtr in next, 1 dtr & 2 tr in next] x 3, sl st to top of 3 ch.
This pattern was a spawn of my original flower coaster pattern. I like this one a bunch, but don't think I have the patience to make an entire set of them.
Poppy Coaster: Using black yarn and a 3.75mm hook: R1: MR, sc 7 in ring R2: 2 sc each st R3: sl st the entire row Switch to red R4: working into top loops of previous round (not the sl sts) sc each st R5: sc, 2 sc R6: (sc next 2 sts, 2 sc next st) R7: (sc next 3 sts, 2 sc next st) R8: Even R9: Even R10: (Sl st, 4 dc next st, sc next st, 4 dc next st, skip next st, sl st next 2 sts) Repeat, BO weave end in
Using Perle Cotton embroider details, finishing each line off with a French knot. Using the red yarn, embroider the lines that separate each petal. Sew poppy to black felt, cut felt around flower.
