7he RS0/0 adapter is an 8- it syn%hronous %o""uni%ations adapter. $t supports the S?LC# @.05# and !inary Syn%hronous A!SCB %o""uni%ations proto%ols at line speeds ranging 8ro" 10,, ps to 1*#,,, ps. ?esigned 8or use 6ith !arr %o""uni%ations so8t6are# the RS0/0 adapter allo6s the 'C to %onne%t to an e)ternal syn%hronous "ode" &ia an SCC1 %a le. 7he RS0/0 adapter and !ARR:R;< so8t6are support true 8ull-duple) operation. 7he original S?LC proto%ol de&eloped y $!= re>uired that a%kno6ledg"ents to ea%h 8ra"e e sent e8ore additional 8ra"es %ould 8ollo6. 7he D7A= para"eter DUPLEX=FULL 6as used to allo6 8ra"es to e sent to one de&i%e on a "ultidrop line 6hile si"ultaneously re%ei&ing data 8ro" another de&i%e. 7he S?LC proto%ol later 6as i"pro&ed to support si"ultaneous sending and re%ei&ing to a single de&i%e. 7he D7A= para"eter 8or this is DATMODE=FULL. 7o this day# &ery 8e6 do6nstrea" de&i%es C in%luding SEA gate6ays and %ontrollers C %an support DATMODE=FULL# e&en though &irtually e&ery 8ront-end pro%essor %an. $n 8a%t# this "ode is nor"ally used 8or "ain8ra"e-to-"ain8ra"e S?LC links. $ndependent la oratory testing has de"onstrated that DATMODE=FULL operation %an a%tually double the a"ount o8 i-dire%tional tra88i% that %an e handled at a gi&en S?LC link speed. <&en 6hen "ost o8 the SEA tra88i% is going in one dire%tion# per8or"an%e %an e signi8i%antly i"pro&ed e%ause a%kno6ledg"ents are trans"itted at the sa"e ti"e data is re%ei&ed. !ARR:R;< so8t6are pro&ides support 8or the DATMODE=FULL proto%ol 6hen used 6ith the RS0/0 adapter.

7he RS0/0 adapter %an e atta%hed to either a "ode" or a 8ront-end pro%essor. !e%ause the adapter pro&ides %lo%k output# it %an e dire%tly %onne%ted to a 8ront-end pro%essor or to another 'C &ia a syn%hronous "ode" eli"inator AS=<B %onne%tor. 7he S=< %onne%tor plugs into the SCC1 %a le and eli"inates the need 8or a syn%hronous "ode" eli"inator o).

(ther Address %hoi%es are 290# 2A0# and 2B0. Note: Change this setting only i8 you &eri8y a %on8li%t 6ith other e>uip"ent in the 'C. 7he RS0/0 adapter only de%odes the lo6 1, address lines. 7his "eans that the RS0/0 6ill %on8li%t 6ith any other adapter 6hose lo6 1, address lines "at%h the RS0/0 address. 7he lo6 1, address lines spe%i8y he)ade%i"al addresses 8ro" ,,,, to ,/... $8 you ha&e &eri8ied an Address %on8li%t 6ith another adapter# "o&e the Fu"per to one o8 the other settings. 7he settings are %learly "arked on the adapter. 7he 8irst phase %an e run as is C you do not need the 7est plug or a "ode" %onne%tion. 7his phase &eri8ies that the adapter is installed %orre%tly and that all settings are %orre%t.
Phase 2 7 All Adapter +unctions
7he se%ond phase re>uires the 7est plug that %o"es strapped to the "ode" %a le. 7o run this phase# insert the 7est plug into the adapter. Any pro le" reported in this phase is 6ith the adapter or 7est plug.
Phase 3 7 Ca'le and E)ternal *ode%
7he third phase re>uires you to set your "ode" to analog loop a%k AALB "ode# or lo%al loop a%k ALLB "ode on so"e "ode"s. ?ata does not enter the telephone line in this "ode. $nstead# data loops a%k into the re%ei&e side o8 the "ode". $n this phase the 'C sends data2 through the send side o8 the !arr adapter# into the %a le# 8ro" the %a le to the "ode"# and through the send side o8 the "ode". 7he data returns2 through the re%ei&e side o8 the "ode"#

Any "ode" you %hoose to use on the dial-up or dedi%ated line "ust %on8or" to the standard that the host %o"puting %enter supports. $8 you do not yet ha&e a "ode"# speak 6ith the %o"puting %enter %onsultant a out the type o8 "ode" that is %o"pati le 6ith the host installation. 7he "ode" should e e>uipped 6ith an RS0/0 %onne%tor. 7he SCC1 %a le %onne%ts the !arr adapter to the e)ternal "ode".
