INTERNATIONAL OIL RIG COMPETITION

Description: Oil rig competition will challenge the participants to build the best oil rig model based on the participants creativity. Here, participants are free to put their ideas, innovation, etc. so the oil rig model doesnt need to follow the existing oil rig exactly. However, the feasibility to build that oil rig model and the existence of detailed part of oil rig model are also included in assessment. The oil rig model must be built by the participant and the materials used are freed to the participant (can be anything, i.e. wood, steel, polystyrene, etc.). The oil rig models built are proper to use in offshore. After the oil rig model has been made, each participant needs to present their oil rig model to the judges. Participants: 1. All the participants are undergraduate students only. 2. The number of members in every team are 3 (minimum) to 5 (maximum). 3. Every member of a team is only allowed to join a team. 4. Every university is limited to send 2 teams (maximum). Judges: Committees will choose 8 the best entry forms (blueprint of the oil rig model & projects brief). The 8 finalists will be informed by the committees and every final team will be given Rp500.000,- to build their oil rig model. On event day, all 8 groups have to present their models to the judges and also there will be testing and assessments on the oil rig model. Model Specification: Each participant has completed to build an oil rig model before the event day based on an oil and gas platform technology. The materials used to build the oil rig model are freed to the participants (can be anything, i.e. wood, steel, polystyrene, etc.). The rig model to be constructed should range from between 600 25mm length and maximum 500mm height (not included leg/base) . For illustration, look at the figure below :

The oil rig model has maximum 4 bases/legs. The maximum length or diameter of each base/leg is 100mm and height of each base/length is ranging from 250mm-275mm. For illustration, look at the figure below :

Criteria of Assessments:

Lightness and Strength (25%)

The oil rig model will be weighed to test the lightness of it. Then, 5kgs weight will be put on the oil rig model to test the strength of the model. The lower ratio lightness to strength, the higher score will be given to the participant. Finally, the oil rig model will be put into water to test whether the oil rig model proper for offshore or not.

Creativity and Build-Ability (25%)

This category is judged based on the creativity of the participants in building the oil rig. Participants are free to put their ideas. Every new innovation applied will increase the final score. Build-ability is referred whether the oil rig model proposed is feasible or not in real world.

Detailed Model (10%)

Detailed model here means the oil rig model have to include any equipment used in oil rig (i.e. office, mud tank, etc.). The more detail model, the higher score will be given.

Multimedia Presentation (40%)

The multimedia presentation is based on participants creativity in which contain project brief (basic concept, creativity-innovation/new features, types of materials used for every part, economical side, how the oil rig model faces the future oil and gas challenges). Every group will be given 15 minutes to present oil rig model and 10 minutes for Q&A section. Note: All presentations, verbal communications, written documentation, and the competition itself will be in English.
