A student who gets more than 50% for the unit may still not pass the unit if either:

They achieve a laboratory mark of less than 50%

or

They achieve an average mark of less than 40% for the combined test and exam components.

In these cases a grade of FC will apply - meaning "failed in a compulsory component of the unit". Supplementary assessment will be available in accordance with university regulations.

On-line assignments commence in Week 1 Your laboratory classes commence in Week 2 or Week 3

Available for purchase from the campus Co-op bookshop located in the Guild village, or if you prefer an on-line version, from www.buyWiley.com Advanced Physics A (PHYS1101) Laboratory Manual 2011 edition. This will be available for purchase from the Co-op book shop for around $5 from week one of semester. A copy will also be available on WebCT. Attendance Attendance of Lectures is expected and strongly encouraged. The course material will be covered in lectures, often in more detail than in the textbook or lecture notes. Only attend those sessions allocated to you by OLCR. Attendance at Laboratory sessions, with satisfactory completion of experiments, is a compulsory part of the course. Students must pass the laboratory component of the course in order to pass the unit. Laboratory Classes There are two streams of labs, A and B. Stream A has labs in weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12 of semester, and stream B has labs in weeks 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13. See OLCR http://www.olcr.uwa.edu.au/for which stream you are in, and what time your lab session is. Lab sessions are each of two hours duration, and lab worksheets must be handed in for marking at the end of each session. You will do 6 laboratory sessions during the semester, worth a total of 20% of the unit. Shoes which protect your upper foot must be worn. You will not be allowed to do a lab in thongs or sandals. If you miss a lab because of inadequate footwear, you may not be able to make it up later. You may not swap sessions on an ad hoc basis. Contact the unit coordinator if you cannot attend the session to which you are allocated.

Tutor assistance Throughout semester tutors will be available to assist with problems and answer any questions students may have. Students are strongly encouraged to seek help as their problems arise. You should always feel free to arrive at the allocated venue at any stage during any of the allocated times.
