Air conditioner controller

The micro controller uses a passive infra-red (PIR) detection system to determine occupancy for optimal control of the air conditioner. This PIR is sensitive and has about an 8 meter range with a beam angle of about 60 degrees It is best mounted on the wall for maximum effect Note that this control unit interrupts the power feed to the air conditioner and will not harm the unit by doing so It has 4 time settings for offices ie 5 min 10 min 20 min and 40 min plus a 2 hour setting for the hospitality industry. Note all this means that if the units are set at 5min at installation, the air conditioner will go off 5 min after the last motion was detected. It supports auto start ie motion will switch the unit on without air conditioner remote control intervention as well as manual start where intervention is required after motion. The unit initiates a 30 second delay in the event of motion occurring immediately after the unit has switched off this prevents high current vapor lock conditions in the air conditioner. It is easy to install and is done so by wiring it into the supply to the air conditioner with the PIR facing the area of motion ie the desk. A 40 amp 220v relay is the important part of the switching circuit and can be used to drive a 220v coil of a large contactor if higher switching power is required. The unit carries with it all the South African Approvals and is backed by a 3 year guarantee against faulty workmanship.

We have had many requests from clients for us to guarantee the 59% saving that was advertised on the testimonial done in conjunction with Eskoms Northern regions and the University. Please note the air conditioner controller is controlling the air conditioner operation using motion and a preselected time. As motion is a random function the savings cannot be guaranteed and that is why research was done to give us average savings. In some instances the savings achieved could be lower depending on the behavioural patterns of the people in the office and in some instances it could be much higher than the 59%. The timer selects time out after the last motion detection is 5 min 10 min 20 min 40 min and 120 min. The shorter the time pre-select the better the possible savings can be. Air conditioners on average are either 2kw or 3 kW. That means roughly they draw 10 amps or 20 amps (In SA that relates to over 2 or 3 rends per hour respectively) If we only save 3 hours per day @ 3 rends per hour 20 days per month then we are saving R180 per month and the unit pays itself off in no time
