DUAL COMPOUND
NEK 606 Offshore Cables
The objective of CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA was to develop a cable which will perform some of the most inhospitable conditions imaginable Saline atmosphere, UV radiation, extremes of temperature, hydrocarbons, oils, drilling fluids and muds while still maintaining the highest levels of safety for personnel requiring. High levels of flame retardance with zero emissions of halogens and toxic gases, which can endanger life and the safety of installation. By developing a sheathing compound which meets the demands of all these criteria with outstanding fire performance and high level of resistance to atmospheric and chemical attack, CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA can offer owners and operators the perfect solution for the transmission of all electrical energy, from mV signals to Medium tensions. The result of this development is a cable with properties far in excess of the requirements stipulated in NEK 606 and associates IEC specifications. In addition, the conductors, insulating and sheathing compounds have the following unique properties: sheathing which is both halogen free and resistant to drilling fluids, muds and associates environmental conditions. always an important consideration, for medium to large cross sectional cables, from the conceptual design through to the final installation with the unique conductor configuration of multi stranded class 2 tinned conductors which have the electrical resistance of traditional minimal strand conductors. CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA have developed a unique solution which reduces total installation costs by offering a significant reduction in bending radius and speed of installation.

DUAL COMPOUND

EASE OF INSTALLATION

COLD BEND AND IMPACT (CSA C22.2) 40 Deg C

with the search of hydrocarbons in ever more inhospitable climates and increased use of FPSO vessels which can find themselves operating in extremes of temperature from one field to another, all cables manufactured by CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA can be installed and operate at temperatures down to 40 Deg Centigrade. (test witnessed by ABS, DNV and LRS)

HEPR INSULATION in order to increase the insulating properties,

and, as a result the current carrying capacity of 0,6/1 kV cables and above, CONTROLCAVI INDUSTRIA have developed High Modulus Ethylene Propylene Rubber (HEPR) compound. This offers superior insulation constant (Ki) and significantly improved ageing performance at higher operating temperatures than the traditional 85 Deg C EPR compounds. These results can be seen below on the ARRHENIUS GRAPH obtained by performing the Thermal Endurance Evaluation according to IEC 60216, where Temperature Index achieved has been Ti = 114 Deg C (witnessed by ABS, DNV and LRS)

Some parameters affecting operational chacteristics of the cables mentioned in this catalog

CONDUCTOR RESISTANCE
It is the most important parameter of the conductor sizing related to: conductor resistivity [ / mm 2/m] l A t f conductor length cross area temperature frequency [km] [mm 2] [Deg C] [Hz]

For low frequencies, conductor resistance is equal to DC condition.

R=l/A
Temperature influence is calculated as:

[]

Rt = R20 (234,5 + t) / 254,5

where: Rt conductor resistance R20 conductor resistance at 20 Deg C t conductor temperature Conductor resistance increases with frequency. [] [] [Deg C]

[]

INSULATION RESISTANCE
Its a peculiar characteristic of the insulation material. An higher value of insulation resistance means larger insulating capacity of the insulation. The "insulation resistance constant Ki" is calculated from the measured insulation resistance by the following formula:

Ki = l R 10-11 / (log10D / d)
where: R measured insulation resistance l length if the cable D outer diameter of the insulation d inner diameter of the insulation

REACTANCE
In a cable operating in a.c. it is related mainly to axial distance between conductors. For 2 - 3 - 4 conductors the reactance per phase could be calculated as:

X = 2 f L I
f L l L frequency Induction core length [Hz] [H/m] [m]

[]

Induction Is calculates as follows:

L = 0,2 [(ln 2a / d) + 0.25] 10-6

MUTUAL CAPACITANCE
Low mutual capacitance causes small distorsion of the signal. Digital signal transmissions are sensible to this features. Is affected by: - type of conductor construction (increasing of conductor size means larger capacitance) - insulation thickness (inversely proportional)

ATTENUATION
It is defined as the decreasing, in signal amplitude, over the total length of the cable. Its value increases with the frequency increasing. Minimizing the attenuation means long distance transmission without amplification and no distorsions.

INTERFERENCES
Are defined as all the noises influencing the signal transmission. They are produced internally the cable (i.e. cross talk) and externally (i.e. power equipments or HF generators). Both can be reduced by using suitable screenings.

CURRENT DETERMINATION according to power and voltage

In case of three-phase systems, determination of the current Intensity related to power and voltage can be easily calculated by using:

I = 722 kW / V
where I = current intensity V = rated voltage kW = power(cos = 0.8) kVA = power HP = horse power

I = 578 kVA / V

I = 531 HP / V

[A] [V] [kW] [kVA] [HP]

VOLTAGE DROP (up to 1 kV) V = K I L / 1000 [V]
