WING TIP FUEL TANKS for C-130H++

Expands performance of C-130E/Hs when used in conjunction with NP2000 prop and SAI Airframe Improvement Package Typical benefits:

Reduced takeoff ground roll by 1600 ft. at 155,000 lb. GW Reduced landing roll by 12-15% Specific range increase by 5-8% Rate of climb improved by 15-20% at low altitude and 3% at high altitudes Significant reduction in Vmca, Vmcg, and Critical Field Length

Wing Tip Fuel Tanks

deceleration from the NP2000 propellers greater thrust, reduce takeoff distances by 30% and landing ground rolls by 35% (if used with carbon brakes and improved antiskid system). Flight test data developed in conjunction with the USAF AFRL in 2007-8 shows that the SAI Wing Tip Fuel Tank improvements, in combination with the SAI Enlarged Dorsal and SAI Extended Chord Rudder, reduce takeoff ground roll distances by 1100 ft. at a GW of 130,000 lb. and by 1600 ft. at 155,000 lb. GW.

SAIs patented* Wing Tip Fuel Tanks (WTFT) produce a beneficial effect on the C-130 wing aerodynamics (climb gradient, cruise efficiency), allowing for either the complete elimination of the pylon tanks or use of the pylons for other mission payloads, and reduce aircraft structural weight by 300 lb., all together resulting in a potential increase in cargo payload from 11,000 to 23,000 lb. The tip tanks alter the wings lift characteristics favorably, and reduce power off stall speeds by 20KIAS when the wing is clean, 11KIAS for 50% flaps, and 8KIAS for 100% flaps, at all gross weights. The SAI Wing Tip Fuel Tanks produce significantly less drag than the pylon mounted tanks resulting in even lower net drag than a clean wing C-130, leading to greater range and endurance with less total operating weight. The WTFT are aerodynamically self-supported above 50 kts and, structurally, the tanks create lower overall wing bending moments. The operational effect of the changed lift characteristics is to reduce speeds required for rotation, liftoff, approach and threshold, which, combined with the improved acceleration and

USAF flight tests of a C-130 with WTFT showed a minimum 15% improvement in takeoff and landing distances, ~18% reduction in the aircrafts stall speed, approximately 5% improvement in minimum controllable speed, and a 5-8% increase in specific range. The pylon fuel tanks can be retained for extra long range or long endurance missions or removed entirely for weight and drag reductions, or the pylons can be maintained and used for other mission related purposes.
