PSYCHOTHERAPY & EMPLOYEE COUNSELING.

ROLE & NEED Psychotherapy is a general term referring to Treatment contracted between a trained professional and a client, patient, family, couple, or group. The Problems addressed are psychological in nature and can vary in terms of their causes, influences, . Accurate assessment of these and other variables Depends on the practitioner's capability and can Change or evolve as the practitioner acquires Experience, knowledge, and insight. Its purpose is the exploration of thoughts, feelings and behavior for the role of problem solving or achieving higher levels of functioning. Psychotherapy aims to increase the individual's sense of his/her own well-being. 1

Psychotherapists employ a range of techniques based on experiential relationship building, Dialoguge, communication and behavior change that are designed to improve the mental health of a client or patient, or to improve group relationships (such as in a family). Counseling is not just something that happens Between two people It is a social institution that is Embedded in the culture of modern industrialized Societies. It is an occupation, discipline or profession of relatively recent origins. Counseling is more likely to be on specific problem or changes in life adjustment. Psychotherapy is for more deeply disturbed clients. Counseling/Psychotherapy is provided is provided in Health clinics, religious places, educational Institutions, consultancy firms and industries. 2

COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY.

Counseling is provided under variety of different labels. Higher version of counseling is called as Psychotherapy, which is provided by practioners who are usually highly trained specialist, often with a background of medicine. Although there is a increasing interest in forms of brief psychotherapy , which may consist of series of ten to twelve sessions. It is probably fair to say that most psytherapist would consider it necessary for clients under him to be in treatment for a year or so for beneficial result to occur. There has been considerable debate over the difference between counseling and psychotherapy. Some could claim that a clear distinction can be made between two, with psychotherapy representing a change with more disturbed clients. Others

maintain that counselor and psychotherapist are basically doing the same kind of work, using identical approaches and techniques, but are using different titles.Tradionally psychotherapy has been used in medical but counseling is being used in Industry and educational institutions. When a counselor has medical background or Psychology background or takes training in psychotherapy and who uses psychological methods and models in his approaches he is called as Psychotherapist. There are several labels that refer to counselor who do not have medical background and work with particular client group as student counselor, marriage counselor, mental health counselor and industrial counselor. 4

5 It has been observed a student goes alone to a teacher for advice and teacher does counseling ,a patient goes to doctor and takes his advice and the medical practice nor does counseling but by and large a disturbed client is taken to a Psychotherapist by his relatives or friends. To summaries there is a difference between Counseling & Psychotherapy. TYPES OF PSYCHOTHERAPY. In Psychotherapy every client s problems are studied ,analyzed and then appropriate psychotherapy is used on the clients, broadly following are the types of psychotherapies. 1.CBT cognitive behavior therapy. This reefers to the practical approach ie combination of concepts and techniques from

cognitive and behavior theory. In this problems are resolved by changing behavior and environmental factors which control behavior. 2. Psychoanalytic Therapy. You identify the central conflict ,reawake the feeling about earlier losses and through interpretation, worked through in a development process. 3. Systematic Therapy. In this therapy following are studied ; Family relationship. Friedship circle. Social & Enviromental context. Then therapist may work in team then try to resolve the problem.

4.INTEGRATIVE THERAPY: This therapy is a blend of Cognitive, Psychoanalytical and systematic therapies. In this behavioral, cognitive, humanistic and psychodynamic all approaches are applied.
