CAMP DIRECTORS

Paula DeTellis Camp Director Hello, parents! I am looking forward to another fun summer. Camp Woodhaven has been part of my life for almost 23 years now. Soon after George and I were married, the baton was passed to us. We have seen the camp grow and blossom from just a dream. My role has been the behind the scenes person for many years. I enjoy planning program that your children will find fun, but you will recognize as educational. Heres a little about my life. George and I live and work in Florida during the school year. We have a son who is 22 and a daughter who is 19. I love to cook food from many countries. I enjoy walking, hiking, and biking for outdoor activities. I appreciate the business side of camp as my degree is in finance, but I also love the creative side of camp. I learned from a young age to use my imagination to create interesting activities. My life growing up on a dairy farm also gave me a love for Gods creatures and for plants and trees as we grew almost all our own food. I hope to share this love for the outdoors with your children. George DeTellis Jr. Executive Director Hi! My name is George DeTellis and I am the Executive Director of Camp Woodhaven. My grandfather, Charlie DiPietro, founded Camp Woodhaven sixty years ago. Today my grandfather is 95 and still drives out on a sunny day to check up on me. As a boy, I spent my summers here at camp when my Dad was the camp director. I love this old camp and want to preserve it for future generations of children. In 2002, I graduated from Rollins College with my MBA. During my time in graduate school, I decided to use the analysis tools we used for case studies to develop a business plan for Camp Woodhaven. In 2002, I turned Camp Woodhaven into a day camp focused on the needs of working parents. My wife and my two children live with me here at camp during the summer. Every year, my kids cant wait to get out of school and spend their summers here at Camp Woodhaven. Camp is a lot of work and long hours, but there is something wonderful that takes place here in the lives of children. Seeing all of our campers having the time of their life gives me the greatest sense of fulfillment. Josh Director of Upper Camp (ages 11-13) I am elated and blessed to announce that I will be returning for yet another summer at Camp Woodhaven. You might think me insane for returning for this my seventh year and I would have to agree with you because you have to be a little crazy to work at a summer camp, just ask any of my coworkers. Part of the reason I find myself returning each year is the relationships that have been formed over summers with campers and staff alike. There are many campers who were just robins and bluebirds when I started all of those years ago and just last year they became owls and eagles. Another gift I have received from working at Camp Woodhaven is the ability to see campers come full circle and now work right alongside me. This marks our second year of the Upper Camp program following last years pilot which I have to say far exceeded expectations thanks to all of the hard work and cooperation by staff, campers and parents who contributed. I am so excited for camp to start because frankly it wouldnt be summer without camp. I would like to think that camp has become a part of me just as I have become a part of camp. This past year I worked in the Shrewsbury Public School system as a substitute teacher. I was provided a unique opportunity in that I worked with many campers both current and former in the school setting. It certainly was a lot of fun to recall prior camp experiences and stories with them as we got down to learning and also generate excitement for the upcoming summer. That being said I am really looking forward to another exciting summer with all of my friends at Camp Woodhaven.

Mary Kate-Director of Lower Camp (ages 5-10) Hi, my name is Mary Kate. I am a graduate of Anna Maria College, as a double major in Liberal Studies and Elementary Education. Alexa-Junior Counselor Floater

Justin-Substitute Hello everyone! My name is Justin and I am a junior going into my senior year at Springfield College. At Springfield College, I study physical and health education. During my free time, I play basketball for the school and I am the president of the Campus Ambassadors, a Christian club on campus. Throughout my career at Camp Woodhaven, I have been a Junior Counselor, Senior Counselor, and The Sports Director. My fondest memories of summer were when I was at camper at camps. I had many influential counselors who made my experience at camps wonderful. I hope I can reciprocate the same influence on my campers this summer and I am looking forward to having another marvelous summer at Camp Woodhaven!
