Section 1: System Description and Installation
Product Overview Orions 'VCL-TDM over IP' (GE Version) equipment provides transmission of up to two/eight E1 links over IP / Ethernet, MEF or MPLS networks. The 'VCL-TDM over IP' (GE Version) equipment is equipped with a powerful PowerPC 400 MHz Processor which provides a highly reliable clock recovery mechanism for low jitter and wander control, even under variable network conditions. The 'VCL-TDM over IP' (GE Version) equipment provides 2 x GigE electrical ports along with 2 x Gigabit optical ports which allow the users to implement a point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and 1+1 add-drop (drop-insert) configurations. Additionally, the equipment also offers the options of Ethernet link redundancy (Port Trunking or Spanning Tree Protocol) and QoS by implementing Differentiated Services (Diffserv) and packet priority classification protocols for network optimization. The 'VCL-TDM over IP' (GE Version) equipment also optimizes on the network usage by offering the CESoPSN option, such that the bandwidth used by the TDM over IP equipment on the packet network is limited to the corresponding to the number of E1 ports and the time-slots that are being transported over the Ethernet / packet network.
Purpose of TDM over IP technology Telecom companies and enterprise users can save network and equipment cost and generate additional revenue by offering different types of services over a single packet-switched infrastructure by the use of TDM over IP equipment. The TDM over IP equipment is also suitable for connecting to Ethernet / packet wireless equipment to achieve fast deployment of E1 services over wireless Ethernet networks. One particular application is to build E1 links with low cost Wireless LAN bridges, replacing expensive TDM / E1 microwave radios. The 'VCL-TDM over IP' (GE Version) multiplexer may be used to provide legacy TDM services over Gigabit Ethernet optical fiber, or wireless Ethernet/IP networks. How the VCL-TDM over IP' (GE Version) equipment works The E1 data streams received on the E1 interfaces are converted by the TDM over IP engine of the TDM over IP equipment to Ethernet data packets (of a fixed size) and transported over the Ethernet network with UDP / IP, MEF or MPLS headers. At the receiving end the TDM over IP reconstructs the original data streams by removing the IP, MEF or MPLS headers and converts the Ethernet data packets back to E1 frames using highly reliable and accurate clock recovery mechanism. The 'VCL-TDM over IP' (GE Version) offers the user a choice of standard, E1 to packet and packet to E1 conversion mechanisms that include SAToP and CESoPSN technologies.
Orion Telecom Networks Inc. 2011-13 10 Hardware Highlights 19-Inch rack mountable 1U form factor (44mm high) 1+1 Redundant Power Supplies, AC and DC, or AC plus DC Redundant power supply inputs Extended Temperature Range: (-20 0 C to +60 0 C) EMI / EMC Complaint Real time battery backed clock with life in excess of 10 years E1 Clock recovery and synchronization techniques: Adaptive Clock Recovery - In the Adaptive Clock mode, the system clock is recoved from the Ethernet time- stamped packets). Under normal operating conditions, the Adaptive Clock mode should be the preferred option along with Two Clock mode option.
Recovered Per Port Clock - In the perportclock enabled mode, each port recovers its own clock on a per port basis and each port works on its own recovered clock.
Recovered Clock / Loop-Timed Clock - Options: Recovered01, 02, 03, 04, 0508 In the recoveredxx clock mode the clock is recovered from one selected port that is specified by the user and the entire system work on the single selected recovered clock source.
Asymmetrical Clock (One-Clock and Two-Clock) In the One Clock mode, the entire system works on one single selected clock source. The One Clock mode must only be used when a very stable external clock source is available such as the Telco External Clock, GPS Clock or a IEEE-1588 based packet recovered clock. In the Two Clock mode, the TDM Ports adjust their frequencies based on the Packet based Ethernet Timing recovery mechanisim. Under normal operating conditions, the Two Clock mode should be the preferred option along with the the Adaptive Clock mode.
Synchronization to an External Clock - Synchronization to an External Clock This used option must only be selected when a very stable external clock source is available such as the Telco External Clock, GPS Clock or a IEEE-1588 based packet recovered clock.
Automatic clock priority selection with fall back This allows the user to prioritize the clock fall-back sequence, in the event that the primary or the preferred clock source(s) become un-available.

Section 10: Quick Start Guide
To use the Quick Start Guide, the user must first understand the basic principles on which this equipment works.
The E1 over Ethernet Equipment uses two processing engines which run independently of each other. One processing engine is the master system processor which monitors and controls the entire system. The second processing engine is the TDM over IP engine which converts and serializes the E1 streams to IP packets and transports them over IP links. Each of the two processing engines must be assigned their independent IP addresses. The system IP address shall provide access to the user to configure, manage and monitor the system. The TDM over IP engines IP addresses shall be used to provide the source and the destination IP addresses to the TDM over IP streams.
An E1 can be transported as a single stream in one bundle, from a source to a destination, or as fractional E1s in multiple bundles from a source to multiple destinations. In the case of the latter, each fractional E1 (i.e. bundle) shall have their individual destination IP addresses. Each Source to Destination link that is created, whether it is for a full E1 or a fractional E1, is called a Logical Link.

Orion Telecom Networks Inc. 2011-13 78 Configure clock priority
Description of various clock modes and settings
Adaptive Clock Recovery - In the Adaptive Clock mode, the system clock is recoved from the Ethernet time- stamped packets).
Automatic clock priority selection with fall back This allows the user to prioritize the clock fall-back sequence, in the event that the primary or the preferred clock source(s) become un-available.
setclockpriority FORMAT: setclockpriority <priority1> <priority2> <priority3> <priority4> <priority5> <Internal> OPTIONS: <priority1~5>: Adaptive, Recovered{xx}, External {in any order} <Internal>: Last priority is always internal, in case of failure of clock options
RECOVERED{XX}: Where xx = port number. example recovered01,recovered05,recovered08
EXTERNAL: EXTERNAL75R/EXTERNALBITS
NOTE 1: Clock priority may be selected in any order but last option shall always be internal.
NOTE 2: Recovered clock can be assigned on any / all of the 8 TDM ports in the order of availability.
NOTE 3: All 6 priorities should be assigned.
