The Saturday Morning Chess Club (SMCC) is held at Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg, with Coach Omar Pancoast and staff. It is open to students and adults. Group classes may include individual and group instruction, as well as club-rated practice. Visit www.chesscenter.net for more information. Beginning students will learn basic chess skills while more advanced players will learn strategy and tactics at their own levels. The SMCC is intended for the serious student, as well as the casual player seeking to improve. Students should bring there own chess equipment (new students may be supplied with a set if they cant afford one). All students will get access to free study materials and practice at an appropriate level. For full benefit, parents should plan for students to spend an hour, or more, per class session. Parents need not stay in the food court during the club session but are welcome to do so. Parents are requested not to be directly in the chess area during the club session unless registered for class or volunteering as a club aide operating under club guidelines. Students are invited (with their families) to get unlimited extra free play, seven-days-a-week, here at Lakeforest Mall (please bring your own equipment) and by joining our free C&O SMCC group on Chess.com. Here they can play against other C&O students and coaches, as well as players from around the world. Students may bring copies of their games to class on Saturday for coach review or submit games for individual analysis at our discounted rates.
