Mason Wyrick 2/3/14 Multimodal Project Proposal

For my multimodal project I will conduct research on the evolution of basketball equipment, and the impact it has had on the game. This includes, but is not limited to, sneakers, uniforms, balls, and the basket. I am interested in finding out how equipment has influenced the game. I want to find out if certain objects effect players and in what ways they do. I know a lot about basketball, I have played for 15 years now, but just because I know a lot doesnt mean I cant learn more. I am a student of the game and every aspect of the game fascinates me. I love watching old games and studying film. I want to learn about the advantages and disadvantages brought fourth by equipment. This heavily relates to my identity because I am a basketball player. I live, eat, sleep, and breathe the game. I love the game. For research I am going to use various websites that contain statistics of NBA games and along side of that I am going to use websites that contain information about how the equipment changes. I will correlate dates and record my findings and then draw conclusions. I will use work from Tara Thackarey to look in depth at the evolution of womens equipment. (Thackeray, 2014) For the statistics from the NBA I will be using a website that has recorded every possible stat since the league began. (NBA) For the shoe aspect of my research I am going to use an article published by the bleacher report. This is a highly respected journal in the basketball community. (Bowers, 2013)

For my multimodal project I am going to make a power point and if I am lucky enough I am going to bring in actual objects from the decades to show the difference in the equipment first hand. In the PowerPoint I am going to graph the correlations I find in scoring and shooting percentages in the NBA. I will set goals for myself and carry my research out in study hall since I am required to have 6 hours a week in there. I will have plenty of time to thoroughly research my topic and find many correlations. I will plan to finish at least 1 piece of equipment per week and correlate the data for that object.
