The Literature classes are continuing to read Black Ships of Troy, which is a retelling of Homers epic The Iliad, while the Language Arts classes just completed a performance task that required them to write their own myth. Students in Language Arts are also reading about the famous Greek hero Heracles and the 12 labors that he had to perform. In the midst of all of the mythology, students are preparing for the Reading and Language Arts subtests of the CRCT! Physical Science (Mrs. Bollwerk) In Physical Science, we are reviewing Energy, Forces, Simple Machines, Electricity, Magnetism, Sound, Waves, and the Electromagnetic Spectrum. Geography: Mr. Freeman
The year has seemingly flown by. It feels like just a few weeks ago that we began our studies of the Middle East (Southwest Asia) and now here we are wrapping up the curriculum. Over the past months, we learned about Southwest Asia, South and Eastern Asia, and Africa. We learned about various ethnic groups from each region, the varying religious groups, forms of governments, and types of economies. We also studied about how water and air pollution affects the people and economies of nations. We have also talked about improving peoples standard of living through improving literacy and health care. As you can see, this has been a very busy year and now we are quickly approaching CRCT testing followed very closely by final exams. Please encourage your student to review for both of these very important events! passenger that has been selected.

Literature: Ms. Cooper

Students in Nautilus Literature Classes worked very hard this spring to prepare for the CRCT. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments they have made. I am also so proud of the many students who not only met but EXCEEDED their Lexile Goal for this year! As we approach the end of the school year, we will be finishing up our Titanic unit and learning some valuable skills students will need to be successful 8th graders next year! Information about Summer Reading will be coming soon, so be watching out for that. Its been a pleasure getting to know all of your children this year!

Mathematics: Ms. White

During the final weeks of the school year we will be solidifying the key concepts necessary for better understanding of the 7th grade curriculum. These concepts include equations and inequalities containing rational numbers and rate of change. With better understanding of these foundational algebraic concepts the 7th grade mathematics team believes that we will give our students solid groundwork, which will allow them to succeed in 8th grade mathematics.

English Language Arts: Ms. Stuart

Students are working on a joint performance task with Literature. As students work through the texts Titanic: Voices from the Disaster, 882 ! Amazing Answers to Your Questions about the Titanic and Titanic Sinks!, they will gather evidence for a research project. The project will require the student to complete a 3-5 minute presentation about one particular passenger who was aboard the Titanic on her maiden voyage. The passenger may have been a survivor or one of the unfortunate many who lost his or her life that day in the frigid Atlantic. Another important resource we will be using throughout this unit is a website called http://www.encyclopediatitanica.org/. Students may use this website at any point to gather additional information about the

Science: Ms. Massey

After the challenge of CRCTs our students are ready and excited to dive into our study of the human body! Well take a look at the different systems of the body and their specific functions. Well also investigate how systems work together to maintain homeostasis. We are in the midst of the circulatory system and will soon be moving on to the lymphatic system. Prepping for 8th grade will involve reviewing all material learned in their 7th grade year and adding a bit more! I look forward to finishing the year strong and motivating your student until May 16th!

Seawolf Team Highlights

In science, we have begun our study of the human body. This is one of the most favorite units each year for the students. We are learning the function of the eleven major organ systems, the primary organs of each system, and how our systems work together to accomplish our bodys functions. The students are working in groups to complete a human body folder with all the required information. In social studies, students are reviewing for the CRCT. We will still have at least one more notebook test. Students will also be having several quiz grades over review material as well. Immediately after CRCT, students will begin their Create-aCountry project worth 2 test grades. Letters concerning the project will be sent home next week. Please sign and return these promptly. In Language Arts, students are working on a joint performance task with Literature. Another important resource we will be using throughout this unit is a website called http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/. Students may use this website at any point to gather additional information about the passenger that has been selected. In literature we are continuing our voyage on the Titanic. The students are learning much about that fateful journey, and each student is keeping a journal as a passenger or crewmember aboard the ship. Emphasis is being given to the skills involved in reading informational texts as well as researching different aspects of this historical event. Other activities include timelines, reading maps, and vocabulary study. In Math, we are preparing for the CRCT. We have been reviewing the units that we covered throughout the year. Study Island, Edmodo, Learn Zillion, and Khan Academy are great resources for review. Please make sure that your child gets adequate rest each night, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives at school on time the next two weeks. Remember tutoring is in the mornings!!!

Congratulations to Ashley Black, Rush Burnes, and Baleigh Morrison for being selected Seawolves of the Week.

Pathfinder
Literature: Pathfinder Literature Classes worked very hard this Spring to prepare for the CRCT. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments they have made. We are also so proud of the many students who not only met but EXCEEDED their Lexile Goal for this year! As we approach the end of the school year, we will be finishing up our Titanic unit and refining skills that students will need to be successful in 8th grade next year! Information about Summer Reading will be coming soon, so stay tuned! World Geography: We are presently concluding our analysis of the continent of Africa. Study topics include; the European partitioning of Africa, rise of nationalism in a post- World War II environment, and the end of apartheid in South Africa. Next week we review for CRCT. Language Arts: In Language Arts ,on PATHFINDER, students are working on a joint performance task with Literature. Students may use this website at any point to gather additional information about the passenger that has been selected. It is highly recommended that students do some research on their own. Also, students have learned to use an app called MORPHO and it allows them to make a picture talk for 30 seconds. They will have the use of iPads here at school and can create a MORFO of their passenger. Math: After wrapping up our unit on probability, the students have been hard at work reviewing for the CRCT. The math section will be held April the 24th. Each week weve focused on different topics including expressions and equations, angle relationships, ratios and proportions, as well as other cumulative topics. Students should have various study materials to bring home each night to get in a little extra practice. After the CRCT, we will focus on our spring final exam. The weeks are flying by, so it is important for students to stay focused to ensure that they conclude a successful 7th grade experience. Science: Pathfinder Science students are finishing up the unit on the Human Body. Students have been learning about how the body functions, the various body systems and how those systems function together. Starting next week students will begin reviewing for the CRCT. Your student will be bringing home multiple review sheets and should take time to study those sheets.

Its hard to believe this school year is coming to a close, and your children will be heading off to high school before you know it! We have truly enjoyed working with you this year and getting to know your children! In Mrs. Goyas Literature class, we are finishing our unit on Mythology by reading Black Ships Before Troy. We will finish out the year by writing a Hero essay based on one of the characters that we have been reading about in class. We will also do a little acting the last week of school. In Ms. Renshaws Math class, as we prepare to take the CRCT, we are reviewing all topics covered this semester. We are refreshing our minds on topics of geometry, such as transformations and characteristics of triangles. We are also focusing on algebra by studying linear functions and two-step equations. Students can continue reviewing at home using their CRCT Workbooks. As always, tutoring is available on Wednesday mornings. In Ms. Wolfes Georgia Studies class, we are currently preparing for the CRCT by completing a review packet. This consists of eight study guides. Students will have the opportunity to take home these study guides the week of April 21st. Following the CRCT, we will focus on economics. Students will work in small groups to complete an assignment in which they create their own business. In Mrs. Pecks science class, Physical Science classes will be ending the school year with some exciting hands on activities to reinforce the standards that were covered this school year. Students will be dissecting cow's eyes, making ice cream, building parachutes, and participating in an egg drop competition. The last week of school we will be preparing for and taking final exams. In Mrs. Williams Language Arts class, we are currently studying Greek mythology. Students have learned that there are many Greek influences on our culture today--influences such as democracy, the alphabet, the Olympics, math, and science. Students also learned that Greek mythology impacts our entertainment industry. There are multiple movies on mythological characters such as the movies Hercules and Percy Jackson and The Lightening Thief. These movies educate our students on Greek mythology, while keeping them entertained. Not only are we studying mythology, we are also preparing for CRCT. Students are working on worksheets, and playing CRCT games to help them remember terms needed to pass the CRCT. Please encourage your student to study each night for the CRCT.

Stardust
In Stardust we are all working hard and reviewing in preparation to show what we know on the CRCT!
In Ms. Moody's class, as we near the end of the school year, we are diligently preparing for final activities. We have been reviewing and studying for the Reading CRCT for the past two weeks. We are also taking the Scholastic Reading Inventory test for the final time in order to measure growth in student Lexiles. The expected reading Lexile entering the high school is a 1080. Please ask your student about their Lexile! In the next two weeks we will be finishing our final novel Black Ships Before Troy and putting our knowledge to work through a frozen scene, and a hero essay. Final exams will be the last week of school. This has been a fantastic year and we have seen excellent improvement in all our students! In Ms. Ray's class we are working with Mythology and reviewing hard for the CRCT. We are looking forward to showing off what we have learned this year in class on the CRCT. Ms. Carles' science classes are going back to each of the units we learned about this year to review for the upcoming CRCT. Throughout the year, we've discussed matter, energy, electricity and magnetism, force and motion, and light and sound waves. Up until the day of the test we will touch on the main ideas from each unit to refresh our memories and prepare to show what we know on the CRCT. Students in Ms. Chapman's classes have finished going through and learning all of the eighth grade mathematics standards just in time for the CRCT! At this point, students are

going back and reviewing every single concept that was taught throughout this year. Our review of the standards will end on April 23rd, and students will take the mathematics portion of the CRCT on April 24th (Thursday). After completion of the CRCT, we will begin working on our study guide and reviewing for the final exam that the students will take the last week of school. In Ms. Beavers' class, we finished up our government standards and have moved right along into CRCT review. We are reviewing material in centers groups, as well as going over a CRCT study guide for Social Studies that every student has with them in their notebook. We are heavily reviewing the people of Georgia Studies and the major government concepts, as well as covering each major time period of Georgia's history. We are looking forward to showing off all of our knowledge of Georgia on the CRCT on April 30th!

As summer approaches its time to start thinking about summer reading. Students are asked to read 6 books and record them on a reading log during the break. The 2014-2015 Summer Reading List is now posted on the RMS website under the Media Center tab, or you can scan the following QR code to open the PDF: This summer, please dont forget about Mackin Via (www.mackinvia.com). We have over 500 electronic books. Most recently, we added some audiobooks to the mix. These are available from any computer or device that has an internet connection. There is also an app for it. To use the app, students will need to log in with their SRI number and password. You may also set up a backpack. Please call (706) 235-4695 or e-mail tquilici@rcs.rome.ga.us for the generic login.
