Oil and Gas Well System

Part 1 (Well Casing)

Introduction

Completing well after drilling :

Introduction

A well completion consists of a series of operations that are necessary to enable a well to produce(and to sustain the production of) hydrocarbons following the installation and cementing of the casing. Casing installation

Well completion operations include:

Tubing string / tubing hanger installation

Sub-surface safety installations ( i.e.SSSCV) Production packer setting Perforating and Sand control X-mastree installation. installing lifting equipment. treating the formation should that be required.

Finally It is a satisfactory communication between reservoir and the surface

Well Casing

Well casing types

Conductor casing: Prevent the top of the well from caving in 2) Surface casing : protect fresh water deposits near the surface of the well from being contaminated by leaking hydrocarbons or salt water from deeper underground. 3) Intermediate casing Minimize the hazards that come along with subsurface formations that may affect the well such as shales, and underground salt-water deposits. 4) Production casing 'oil string' or 'long string', : provides a conduit from the surface of the well to the petroleum producing formation. The production casing must be wide enough to allow the passage of a drill bit later on. It is also instrumental in preventing blowouts, allowing the formation to be 'sealed' from the top should dangerous pressure levels be reached.

Casing Head

The casing head is the lowest part of the wellhead assembly and is almost always connected to the surface casing string. It supports subsequent drilling wellhead and completion equipment
