1.0 CISCO UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS OVERVIEW

Cisco Unified Communications Manager (formerly Cisco Unified CallManager) and Cisco Unified IP Phones provide an IP telephony solution that operates on an IP infrastructure. The clustering architecture of Cisco Unified Communications Managers allows you to scale to a highly available voice-over-IP (VoIP) network

1.1 Applications
The following list includes the major Cisco Unified Communications voice and video applications: Cisco Unified Communications ManagerThis software-only call-processing application distributes calls, features, phones, regions, and groups over an IP network. Cisco UnityThe Cisco Unity messaging application provides voice messaging to enterprise communications. Cisco Unity ConnectionFor more information about Cisco Unity Connection, see the applicable Cisco Unified Communications Manager SCCP Integration Guide for Cisco Unity Connection or the Cisco Unified Communications Manager SIP Trunk Integration Guide for Cisco Unity Connection. VideoIP-TV and IP-video conferencing products enable distance learning and workgroup collaboration. Cisco Unified IP-IVRAs an IP-powered interactive voice response (IVR) solution, Cisco Unified IP-IVR, combined with Cisco IP Auto-Attendant, provides an open and feature-rich foundation for delivering IVR solutions over an IP network. Cisco IP CommunicatorThe Cisco IP Communicator, a software, computer-based phone, provides communication capabilities that increase efficiency and promote collaboration.

Now the license has been activated. Next step would be how to activate the GUI of call manager. Before step 4 we need to put GUI files in the routers flash from TFTP server. Step4: To activate the GUI of call manager enter the following command: Router(config)#config terminal Router(config)#telephony-service Router(config)#auto-register
Router(config)#web system name <NAME> password <PASSWORD> Now the GUI is activated. Our next step is to put the URL in the web browser. Step5: Click on web browser and put the following URL: https://192.168.10.10/telephony-service.html Now to add the phones click on add and as SCCP protocol is by default activated so it will detect all the IP phones which are in the networks. After adding the IP phones go to configure to configuration various parameters of IP Phones.

Select the IP Phone which we need to configure. Now when we try to configure the extension number or other parameters it wont allow us and show the error.

So to activate it we have to enter the following command on CLI. Router(Config)#config terminal Router(Config)#telephony-service
Router(telephony-service)#dn-wededit Lets try to configure IP Phones again through GUI. This time it allows us and following screen will displayed:

Troubleshooting

2.1.1 Check whether the CME License is activated or not.

First check the CME license when the new router box will open. Because by default it is not activated and to check the same enter the following command: Router# Sh license Output will show you that licnese is not activated. To activate enter the following command: Router(Config)#License accept end user agreement. The above command will activate the license and CME is ready to configure

2.2.2 Check CME GUI is enabled or not.

Many a time it happens after enabling the CME license we directly try to open the CME GUI to configure the IP Phones. But it please not that by default the GUI is not activated. To activate the CME GUi we have to enter the following command on CLI of router: Router(config)#config terminal Router(config)#telephony-service Router(config)#web system name <NAME> password <PASSWORD>

2.2.3 Please note that when the new IP Phones are delivered, the license ordered with it has already been installed in the IP Phones. 2.2.4 TFTP server required to communicate with IP Phones
When we configure the network parameters in the IP Phones it also required TFTP server. Without TFTP server it will not communicate. The IP of TFTP server should be the IP of router itself. Because the files required are placed in the routers flash and CME will pic the files from it.
