SCHOOLS OF CHOICE MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGH I hope everyone had a wonderful break. I am pleased to let you know that I came back to work this Wednesday! The recovery from my accident and the complications that arose after has taken longer than I would like, but I was so thankful to see all of the smiling student faces greet me when they saw me. For at least the next couple of weeks, I will be working about four hours per day. Several days a week, Mr. Schuchaskie, Mrs. Densmore, or Mr. Moore will continue to work in the office to handle many of the principal responsibilities so that I can focus on being in classrooms. I hope your student told you all about our Bucket Fillers assembly that took place Tuesday. We scheduled that assembly, along with some classroom lessons, to deter bullying and support our Beagle ROCKS behavior. If you are unfamiliar with Bucket Fillers, the premise is that all of us impact others around us with our words and actions. We can positively impact others, which fills up the a persons bucket, or we can negatively impact others, which dips into the good feelings they have about themselves. The message is clear: it is important to be a Bucket Filler instead of a bucket dipper, and we cannot fill up our own bucket (make ourselves feel good) by hurting others and dipping into their bucket. If you currently have a Schools of Choice student, you must notify the District either by email to D'Anne Golub at golubd@glcomets.net, or a letter to Grand Ledge Public Schools, c/o D'Anne Golub, 220 Lamson Street, Grand Ledge, MI 48837 no later than May 31, 2014 indicating that you would like your student(s) to continue as a schools of choice student for the 2014-2015 school year. STUDENT ABSENCES OR TARDIES If your child is going to be absent or late for school, please call the office at 925-5480. If no one is available to take your call, please leave a message with the following information: Students Name Teacher Reason for absence If your child is ill, please explain their symptoms so we can accurately file our weekly report with the Eaton Co. Health Dept. If your student is going to be late and needs a hot lunch, please let us know what their lunch choice is. Thanks for your assistance in this matter!

As stated in previous newsletters, encouraging students to read for just 15 minutes a day can make a big difference in their reading fluency and school work. Please see the attached copy of The Rewards of Reading published by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) for some great reading tips for parents. ** For those reading the newsletter on-line, click on the Rewards of Reading link provided on our website.
