Multicultural Attitude and Awareness among Primary School Teachers Introduction: Multicultural awareness is a greater understanding, sensitivity, and

appreciation of the history, values, experiences, and lifestyles of groups that include race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, socioeconomic status and mental/physical abilities. Multicultural attitude is the way of thinking / feeling about multicultural issues that is reflected in a person's behavior. This questionnaire aims to measure teachers attitude and awareness of multicultural education. Please answer all of the questions to the best of your ability.

multiculturalism and diversity Being multiculturally aware is relevant for the subject I teach Teaching students about cultural diversity will create mutual understanding in the classroom I believe that all children should receive equal opportunity in education regardless of their cultural background In order to be effective teacher, one needs to be aware of cultural differences present in the classroom Teachers have the responsibility to be aware of their students cultural background It is teachers responsibility to encourage pride in ones culture Multicultural training for teachers is necessary Sometimes I think there is too much emphasis placed on multicultural awareness and training for teachers I would like to receive more training in teaching strategies for culturally diverse student population Multicultural awareness training can help me work more effectively with a diverse student population I am aware of the diversity of cultural backgrounds in my classroom I am aware that my cultural background has influenced the way I think and act I am aware that the way I think and act have impacts on persons of different cultural background I am aware that there are different cultural institutions and systems around me I can accurately compare my own cultural perspectives with that of a person from a different culture I am aware that multicultural situations can cause ambiguity and stress because people are not sure what to expect from each other When dealing with bilingual students, some teachers may misinterpret different communication styles as behavioral problems It is important for students to be aware of multicultural diversity
