WELCOME TO PEACE WITH CHRIST

LUTHERAN CHURCH!

We give thanks to God that you are joining us today!

Many of our guests are seeking a home church where they
can be part of the Fellowship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Peace with Christ is a congregation that is a family not an
“organization”. We are small enough to allow people to
know each other by name, and yet large enough to offer
opportunities for growth and service. What we “specialize”
in is not programs or productions, but simply The Gospel
of Our Lord Jesus. Christ, His Word, and the Cross are
what provide the foundation for faith and ministry. If you
are interested in learning more about Peace With Christ
Lutheran Church, please call the church office at 226-4721.
Pastor Patrick would welcome the opportunity to visit with
you personally.

THE TIME before the service may be used for prayer and preparation.
Read through the worship bulletin and familiarize yourself with the service.
A few moments spent this way will help make the service more meaningful.

NEXT WEEK’S LUTHERAN HOUR MESSAGE:

“A Hotter Hell” Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus. Justice
demands that God give sinners exactly what they

justice is only half of the story. (Mark 12:38-40) Listen to
The Lutheran Hour Message on KOA, Denver (AM850)

Peace With Christ Library Book of the Week

The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran Pastor during the Nazi

takeover of Germany. Imprisoned for preaching the truth of the Gos-
pel and speaking out against Adolf Hitler, Bonhoeffer would pay the
ultimate “Cost of Discipleship” when he was executed at the concen-
tration camp of Flossenburg on April 9, 1945.

“Cheap grace is the grace we bestow on ourselves...grace without

discipleship...costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again
and again, the gift which must be asked for, the door at which a man
must know...It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace
because it gives a man the only true life.” The Cost of Discipleship

This book can be found on the “Reading List” shelf of the PWC library

The Gift of a Green Christmas Ministry: This is

our 6th year of partnering with local Lutheran Congre-
gations to provide families in need with Christmas
Trees and Decorations. This need is dependent on the generous
donations and support of our church members. As our service
continues to grow, so is our need for new and used decorations,
artificial trees or cash donations to buy supplies. If you have ex-
tra Christmas items that you can donate or would like to purchase
lights and decorations, please drop them off to the Church office
by Friday, December 12th.
If you or your family would like to help cut and/or deliver Christ-
mas trees and decorations to the families, please contact Ryan
Behm 222-5678 or ryanbehm@yahoo.com.

A READING FROM THE BOOK OF CONCORD

FORMULA OF CONCORD, SOLID DECLARATION
ARTICLE XI: GOD’S ETERNAL ELECTION
ALL SAINTS’ DAY

God ordained in His eternal purpose what cannot fail or be over-

thrown. He placed salvation for safekeeping in the almighty hand
of our Savior, Jesus Christ, from which no one can snatch us
(John 10:28). Therefore, Paul asks in Romans, because we "are
called according to His purpose" (8:28), who "will be able to
separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord"?
(8:39).

Furthermore, this doctrine provides glorious consolation under

the cross and amid temptations. In other words, God in His
counsel, before the time of the world, determined and decreed
that He would assist us in all distresses. He determined to grant
patience, give consolation, nourish and encourage hope, and
produce an outcome for us that would contribute to our salva-
tion. Also, Paul teaches this in a very consoling way. He explains
that God in His purpose has ordained before the time of the
world by what crosses and sufferings He would conform every
one of His elect to the image of His Son. His cross shall and
must work together for good for everyone, because they are
called according to God's purpose. Therefore, Paul has concluded
that it is certain and beyond doubt that neither "tribulation, or
distress," neither "death nor life," or other such things "will be
able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our
Lord." (See Romans 8:28, 29, 35, 38, 39.) (paragraphs 46-49)

Prayer and Study

Date: November 1 - November 7

Luther Quote: “We should realize the great, severe, and terri-
ble wrath of God against sin because of the fact that this wrath
could be turned aside in no other way and atonement could be
made by no other payment than by this one sacrifice, that is, the
death and blood of the Son of God, and that by our sins all of us
had aroused this wrath of God and were the why the Son of God
had to be sacrificed on the cross and had to shed His blood.”

Nigeria – Nov. 1-15

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began work in Nigeria in
1936. Today, LCMS World Mission supports theological educa-
tion programs and partners with the Lutheran Church of Nigeria
to do mission work in The Gambia.
11

Daily Prayers:

Sunday: For missionaries Rev. David and Joyce Erber and their chil-
dren, Luke, Jonathan, and Naomi, as they faithfully serve in Nigeria and
other countries of West Africa, working to equip church leaders and
LCMS partner churches in their Gospel ministry.

Monday: For missionaries Ivan and Jennifer Rasch and their children,
Heather and Timothy, as they serve at Hillcrest School in Jos. Pray that
the Lord would use them to touch their students and many Christian
leaders, who Ivan works with throughout West Africa in computer
training programs.

Tuesday: For Ablaze! Alliance Missionary Rev. Samuel Essien, who

has served in The Gambia with his family of seven since 2001. Samuel
works among predominantly Muslim people, inviting them to Bible
studies, teaching confirmation classes, and training leaders for his new
congregation.

Wednesday: For Ablaze! Alliance Missionary Rev. Obot Ite, who

hails from Nigeria, and along with his wife, Abasifreke, serves in Ja-
maica through a partnership with LCMS World Mission and the Lu-
theran Church of Nigeria.

Thursday: For Jonathon Ekong Memorial Lutheran Seminary, lo-

cated at the headquarters of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria in Obot
Itim. The Seminary trains both evangelists and pastors. Currently, about
60 students are enrolled in the seminary to study God’s Word.

Friday: For the theological education by extension program at the

seminary, which currently enrolls around 150 students. Ask the Lord to
bless their theological studies and show them how best to put them into
practice.

Saturday: For the developing Master of Arts in Christian Outreach

program that is beginning at the seminary. Ask the Lord to guide the
decisions of leaders who are trying to put this program in place for bet-
ter training of missionaries and missional church leaders.
